Cadillac is discontinuing the CT4-V Blackwing and the regular CT4 at the end of the 2026 model year, and the CT5-V Blackwing is also on the way out. However, while there will be no new CT4-V Blackwing, there is going to be a new CT5-V.
As one of the most popular cars the brand produces, there was no way that Cadillac was going to let it die. Recent promotional footage of Cadillac F1 drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez driving the current edition of the sedan is proof of that.
Along with the new regular CT5, the Blackwing fits neatly into General Motors’ future plans as it looks to keep one of the few American luxury sedans still on the market on sale. And it gets better, as it sounds as if more power is coming to the next-generation model.
GM Authority recently reported that the new model is very much on the way. And there is even more good news, as it sounds as if the car is going to get quite a horsepower increase. For those who aren’t fans of EVs either, it sounds like a new V8 will be sitting under the hood.
Cadillac Is Going All-in With the New Blackwing
It very much sounds as if Cadillac is going all-in with the new Blackwing. While some details are scarce, a supercharged V8 engine is highly likely to be under the hood. For context, the current version has a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine making 668hp and 659lb-ft of torque.
Cadillac recently took the covers off the new Blackwing F1 Collector Series. This limited-edition model has an upgraded supercharger under the hood, developed in conjunction with GM Motorsports. The model makes 685hp and 673lb0ft of torque. Plus, it comes with every enthusiast’s dream: a six-speed manual transmission. This could be a preview of the future, with the second-generation CT5-V Blackwing potentially set to have more power than ever before.
The new car is set to feature on an updated version of Cadillac’s Alpha 2 platform, which will allow it to accommodate a wide array of powertrains, including V8 engines. GM has invested heavily in new V8s, with the latest engine for the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport and Stingray boasting 535hp and 520lb-ft of torque. This investment is another surefire sign that the CT-5 Blackwing isn’t going anywhere.
The CT4 and CT4-V Blackwing Are Being Discontinued
While there will be a second-generation CT5 and Blackwing, the same isn’t true of the CT4 and CT4-V Blackwing. Chevrolet confirmed towards the end of 2025 that the production of the CT4 and Blackwing will cease at the end of the 2026 model year. Production was slated to continue until the end of June 2026, with cars likely to still be on sale in early 2027.
“Today, Cadillac will announce that after six strong years, the current generation Cadillac CT4 and CT5 will be retired after model year 2026. The CT4 will continue through June 2026 and the CT5 until the end of 2026,” Cadillac VP John Roth said. The car was built as a slightly smaller version of the CT5, and the Blackwing has a bit less power than the CT5-V as well, with 310hp and 350lb-ft of torque. While it will be sad to see it go, the prospect of a new CT5-V Blackwing is incredibly exciting.
