Some people take their job seriously. This DoorDash driver in Houston took hers to a whole new level, and it’s the kind of story that makes you want to bump her tip up a few dollars just on principle.

It all went down in the Greenspoint area, where a Houston Police Department pursuit rolled right through a residential street. A suspect fleeing officers in a gray sedan plowed straight into the delivery driver as she was walking up to make a drop-off. Homeowner Lily Portillo had cameras rolling and caught the whole thing, which were obtained by ABC 7 Eyewitness News, including the aftermath, which honestly reads like something out of a sitcom if nobody had gotten hurt.

The suspect, identified by police as 34-year-old Torrance Whitaker, didn’t stick around to exchange insurance information. He bailed out of the car and took off on foot, hopping fences through several backyards while a K-9 unit and officers gave chase.

One neighbor, Steve Jones, watched the whole thing unfold from his own home security camera and said it looked like something straight off a cop show. He wasn’t wrong. Whitaker eventually popped out of a row of front yard bushes two houses down, right into the waiting jaws of the police dog.

And the driver? She got up, checked herself over, and finished the delivery. Food, on the porch, order complete. If there was ever a real-world example of “the customer comes first,” this might be it.

A Chase That Started With a Traffic Stop

According to court documents, Whitaker was already wanted on a burglary charge, and this whole ordeal kicked off when police attempted a traffic stop on Northborough Drive.

Instead of pulling over, he took off, which led officers on a pursuit that wound through a quiet neighborhood and ended with him being dragged out of somebody’s landscaping by a very determined dog. He’s now facing an aggravated assault charge for hitting the delivery driver with his car.

The Driver Just Kept Going

The DoorDash driver, who hasn’t been publicly identified, told local reporters she’s dealing with a lot of pain but thankfully no broken bones. She confirmed she was on the clock when it happened and is now looking into a claim against Whitaker’s insurance, which, given the circumstances, seems more than fair.

Portillo said she checked on the driver right after the crash and was told she was okay, though Portillo made a point of saying this woman deserves a serious tip if anyone can track her down.

When Your Delivery App Rating Depends on Nerves of Steel

We’ve all had deliveries show up a few minutes late because of traffic or a wrong turn. This driver got hit by a fleeing suspect’s car during an active police chase and still made it to the door with the food. That’s not just customer service, that’s dedication most of us would struggle to match on our best day.

It’s a reminder that the people driving around delivering our takeout, groceries, and packages deal with a lot more than bad directions and rude customers, and a little patience and a generous tip go a long way.
