It is quite remarkable how just the color of a car, or even a part of it, can spark such a big debate. But that is sometimes the nature of the automotive world, as some enthusiasts on Reddit debated which color would go well with a tan top.
This was started on the r/Autos SubReddit by a user with the amusing name of yomomyomommommom. Hilarious username aside, the Reddit user recently bought a Pontiac Firebird, and it came with a folding tan top roof, while the car itself was wrapped in a deep blue.
The tan top refers to the color of the folding roof, and this led to the user posing an interesting question. What color would go well with a tan top on the muscle car? Remarkably, this question then gave way to quite a debate on the SubReddit as users voiced their own opinions.
The owner of the Pontiac was debating removing the wrap and getting the car painted into that same color. But they were undecided, and wanted to know if another color would work well with the tan top. Everyone had an opinion, and it was interesting to see what colors some thought would work, and what others thought wouldn’t.
Which Colors Did People Think Worked With the Pontiac’s Tan Top?

It must be said, the blue did seem to work very well with the tan top. The deep shade of blue contrasted nicely with the tan top, but there were plenty of other options selected by Reddit users. The top commenter, HRman88, suggested dark green as the color of choice for the Pontiac. At the time of writing, 77 people had upvoted this comment in agreement.
There were some supportive comments as well. One user simply replied with “Bam!” while another, Draco-REX, said, “The only color that goes with a tan ragtop. Red is a close second, but it only works on Ferraris and Alfas.” Of course, all of this is subjective. You might think bright yellow, for example, goes very well with a tan top. Some of you might think it is purple, but it is still fascinating to see people’s opinions.
Other users said that there was an array of colors that worked well with a tan top. “Dark green, gunmetal grey/green, some dark reds, black,” were colors suggested by user g0ld-f1sh. This too had supportive comments, with one user saying those were the only colors that could possibly work with the tan top. Some, though, were in disagreement with what colors actually worked best.
Opinions Differed the More You Looked at the Comments

The owner of the car suggested they would keep it in the blue. However, user MarkVII88 disagreed with that. “The blue does not go well with the tan top. I think a dark red or dark green would look awesome!” they said in response. They did also suggest rewrapping the car in a different color, rather than going for a full repaint that they may regret in the future.
An interesting suggestion was British racing green. Thinking about it, we think that the deep green would mix well with the tan top, and can imagine a Jaguar E-Type finished in that combination of colors. The consensus on the thread was that darker colors would work better with the tan top. One user said white would work well, but the vast majority seemed to feel that whatever color the owner chose, it should be a dark one.
