General Motors (GM) is about to make EV owners’ lives in America much easier, as it has decided to update all of its mobile companion apps to give access to most charging networks in the United States. It is a positive move from GM away from its unusual decision to block Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its vehicles.
The changes were announced earlier in June 2026, and they solve a problem that has faced GM EV owners for some time. No longer will you need multiple apps and to create an account on each one to be able to access various charging networks.
GM has also tried to make the integration as easy as possible, meaning you should see all of the participating charging networks on the app straight away. You will also be able to access the live charging status of your car, among a plethora of other features.
It is a feature that GM owners have been crying out for for some time. Being able to use an EV on a variety of charging networks makes life easier for everyone, and it appears that the American automotive giant has finally listened to the demands of its customers thanks to what is now called Energy Pass.
How the New GM EV Charging Integration Will Work

If you have an app such as the MyChevrolet, MyCadillac, and MyGMC applications, the new update will allow integrated charging on all of them. In short, this means that you will be able to charge whichever GM EV it is on networks such as IonMobility, Electrify America, and on a Tesla Supercharger. You will not need multiple apps for these networks in order to use them.
The update has been designed to simplify the process as much as possible. On the apps, you will be able to start and end charging sessions, as well as check the status of the charge if you are away from your GM vehicle. The app allows you to see all the participating networks, as well as helps you find the ones closest to you so you can recharge your car.
Another useful feature will be the ability to see your receipts for each charging session. That means you can track how much you have spent, and potentially claim the cost back if you are using a work EV or need it reimbursed for a particular reason. Plus, a bonus is the ability to obtain exclusive discounts on the app to potentially make each session a little bit cheaper.
This Is Something GM Owners Have Been Crying Out For

Working with the charging network companies, you will now have access to various discounts through the mobile apps. Currently, there is already a ten percent discount for Ionna charging stations, but more are on the way, and GM is to detail these in the coming months. Any chance to save a bit of money will be readily welcomed by consumers.
Plug & Charge is another feature that will be offered in the companion app. With this, you can do all your plugging in and charging while the app takes care of all the payments in the background. As long as you have payment details in the companion app, then you are good to go. All of these features fall under the Energy Pass umbrella, and a banner on the new apps that reads ‘Activate Energy Pass’ will let you get set up in a minute or two. Many GM owners will be incredibly relieved to see this now becoming a reality for them.
