A bright yellow Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray nearly pulled off one of the strangest getaway attempts seen in a recent Los Angeles police chase.
Instead of simply flooring it, the driver reportedly ducked into a Chevron gas station and sat there long enough to make it look like an ordinary fuel stop.
For nearly two minutes, the Corvette remained parked while officers were nowhere in sight, creating a bizarre pause in what had been a high-speed pursuit.
However, once police units closed in from both sides, the sports car burst back into action, turning the fake pit stop into one last desperate bid for freedom.
Corvette Driver Pulls Unusual Mid-Chase Tactic

According to reports, aerial footage showed the yellow Corvette entering a gas station near Sepulveda Boulevard and Del Amo Circle East around Torrance.
Rather than immediately exiting, the driver stayed parked for an extended stretch, leading many viewers to believe he was pretending to refuel or trying to blend in.
The move briefly worked, as no police vehicles were visible during part of the stop.
That gave the scene an almost surreal feel, as if the pursuit had been paused.
Police Box In The Sports Car
Eventually, patrol units arrived and entered the station from both the entrance and exit points.
Despite being cornered, the Corvette driver reportedly slipped away while attempting to raise the removable roof panel.
That moment suggested the gas station stop may have been more about buying time than getting fuel.
Once back on the road, the driver continued the escape and even managed to stop again briefly to finish securing the roof before accelerating away.
Turn Signals During The Chase
One of the stranger details from the incident was that the driver used turn signals during portions of the pursuit.
That created a bizarre contrast: reckless evasion mixed with flashes of proper road manners.
The chase reportedly passed through multiple Southern California areas including Compton, Downey, Long Beach, Norwalk, and Torrance.
Authorities said it originally began in Santa Ana, located in Orange County.
Traffic Ends The Escape Attempt
The getaway came undone after the Corvette made a U-turn and ran into traffic stopped at a light.
The driver then tried to escape by hopping a curb and driving over pavement.
Instead, the Corvette became stuck after colliding with another vehicle and striking a tree.
Smoke from the tires showed the driver was still trying to free the car even after momentum was gone.
Final Surrender

With police vehicles closing in and the Corvette immobilized, the suspect reportedly raised a hand in surrender.
That signaled the end of an unusually dramatic chase involving one of America’s most recognizable sports cars.
Officials did not immediately confirm why the suspect was initially wanted, beyond the pursuit itself.
