Since the Tesla Cybertruck entered production, there have been plenty of videos showing the EV towing. Or rather, plenty of videos showing the Cybertruck failing to tow, as quite a few customers have struggled to get the maximum out of the pickup truck.
Recently, a video emerged that looked like it would be the antidote to this. A Tesla Cybertruck was spotted by AK 49 (@user4043937299344) on TikTok towing a boat, and things looked to be going very well for the electric truck. Certainly better than in some videos we’ve seen.
But about eight seconds into the video, things started to unravel for the truck. It becomes clear that the Tesla isn’t going to make it up the ramp with its cargo, and what looked like a positive outcome had descended into something far from it. Plus, the situation got more embarrassing for the truck.
Not only did the Tesla Cybertruck get stuck, but it was also unable to tow the boat. But as the camera pans, we can see one of its biggest rivals with internal combustion power has had to come forward and rescue it. Elon Musk probably doesn’t want to see this video.
What Happened to the Tesla Cybertruck?

In the video, we see the Tesla Cybertruck slowly moving up a concrete-and-gravel slope. Behind it is quite a large boat on a trailer, with a couple of people standing on it. As the video continues, the Tesla looked to be pulling this off, as it slowly inched forward and dragged the boat behind it.
It isn’t long, however, before it unravelled. Cut to a few seconds later, and suddenly the Cybertruck is stuck in the gravel with its wheels spinning. In front of the Cybertruck is a white rope, and it soon becomes clear why the rope is there. A Ford F-150 has had to be brought in to rescue the ailing EV from its predicament and drag it up the slope.
You can probably guess what happened next. The Ford ended up dragging both the truck, and the boat up the slope before the Cybertruck was able to get some traction again. The Cybertruck does eventually make it to the top, thanks to the assistance of the Ford, and the video ends with the two at the top. So what had started quite positively for the Tesla ended with a situation that has become familiar to a lot of us.
Is the Cybertruck Really That Bad at Towing?
This isn’t the first time a video has shown the Cybertruck towing, but ultimately failing in the process. There are plenty of videos and stories out there showing similar incidents to this. Plus, InsideEVs reported how a Cybertruck tow hitch stress test had failed, with a Cybertruck losing part of its aluminum frame as it ripped apart while trying to tow something.
But the poor towing capabilities are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the truck. All sorts of problems have been reported with Tesla’s pickup, with a recall in March 2025 affecting nearly every 2024 and 2025 model thanks to a problem with how the stainless steel panels had been affixed to the vehicle. Other problems have also arisen, such as throttle issues and general quality issues. So this towing incident highlights that the Cybertruck has really not had an easy time.
