The ‘Stolen’ Koenigsegg One:1 Is Set To Go Under the Hammer

RM Sotheby's

Fancy a stolen hypercar? Well, you are in luck, as RM Sotheby’s is set to auction off the ‘stolen’ Koenigsegg One:1 that has been the centre of attention for enthusiasts and supercar fans for a very long time. In fact, it might be one of the strangest automotive stories of recent years.

The car is estimated to sell for over $10 million, but it’s the backstory behind it that is so captivating. Enthusiasts have for ages believed that it was stolen, and that it was actually seized from a former Formula 1 racing driver before it was then brought to Munich and sent to this auction.

Yet despite its somewhat shaky past, this car is still set to fetch big money when it does go under the hammer. Arguably, it is the wild backstory to the car that has helped to drive up its value and make it such a must-have for some collectors.

RM Sotheby’s are likely licking their lips at the opportunity to sell such an amazing hypercar. But the more you dive deeper into its past, the more you realize this car has had one hell of a life. In fact, it was never even owned by the man who claimed to actually own it.

What on Earth Happened With This Koenigsegg One:1?

The hypercar made headlines a few months ago, when it was reported that it had been taken by the mercenaries related to the Russian Wagner Group. It was then rumored to have made its way into an Eastern European country, and then it simply vanished off the face of the Earth.

However, the story didn’t end there. German media was able to track the car down and report that it was never stolen or even smuggled. Rumors abounded that it was taken after former F1 driver Adrian Sutil had been arrested in December 2025, following charges of  “aggravated joint fraud” and “joint embezzlement” related to high-end luxury car leasing contracts and dealership dealings. In January 2026, nine hypercars from his personal collection were allegedly extorted by the Russian mercenaries.

But it wasn’t this car. In fact, German publication Bild reported that it was taken by the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office and then released to its owner, the firm AIL Leasing. Interpol was never even involved with this car, because everybody knew where it actually was. We did say that this car has had one hell of an interesting past.

This Is What Makes the Koenigsegg One:1 So Special

Away from the wild story behind it, this is one truly amazing hypercar. Under the hood is a massive 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, producing an incredible 1,341hp and 1,011lb-ft of torque. The car also has a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, similar to what you would find in another Koenigsegg product, the Agera.

It takes its name from its perfect 1:1 power-to-weight ratio, something which very few cars in history can claim to have had. The car now up for sale is a 2015 model, bearing chassis number 7108 and with a clear-coated carbon fibre finish. It also has gorgeous China Pink accents, which really help that clear carbon to pop out. It has done just 2,630 miles over its 11-year existence, and RM Sotheby’s thinks it will sell for up to $11 million when it goes up for auction on July 4th in Germany.
