Since coming onto the scene, Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury division, has slowly been forging an excellent reputation. Hyundai already offers some excellent products, but Genesis can help take them to the next step. As we can see with the brand new Genesis GV60 Magma.
Magma is the performance sub-brand within Genesis…the luxury brand of Hyundai…it is a little confusing, but a Genesis Magma is a faster Genesis in essence. Think of the Genesis Magma WEC racing team, which is doing an incredible job in its first year of competition.
Back to the GV60 Magma, and this is a hotter and fancier version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. While we have extra performance with the Ioniq 5 N, the GV60 gives the car a revised design and more of an upscale feel. Which is impressive, as the Ioniq 5 is already a comfortable and quite luxurious electric car.
If you want to own this upmarket Ioniq 5, however, be prepared to pay a little bit extra. Because the GV60 Magma is nearly $10,000 more expensive than its Hyundai equivalent. That is quite a jump, but it does appear that you get a lot for your money.
This Is What the Genesis GV60 Magma Brings to the Table
The 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma costs $71,495 with destination and handling fees included. That makes it $8,995 more expensive than the Ioniq 5 N, which itself is quite an expensive vehicle. But Hyundai has made that gap bigger, and they slashed the starting price of the hot hatchback by $6,000 earlier this month.
For your extra money, you do get plenty of extras. Of course, a highlight is being able to go with the Magma Orange color, the signature for the Magma brand. But others are available, including Makalu Gray Matte, Vik Black, and Uyuni White. If you do buy the range-topping GV60, then you get the exclusive 21-inch forged wheels as well as the beefy rear spoiler. The exclusivity carries on inside the EV as well.
Inside, we can see bucket seats in Obsidian Black, with orange stitching. This is a first for the Genesis brand, but there is plenty more to get excited about. For example, if Boost Mode is turned on, the dual motors deliver 641hp and 583lb-ft of torque. Horsepower is identical to the Ioniq 5 N, but there is 15lb-ft more torque for the driver, although it probably isn’t noticeable.
Genesis Has Not Revealed the EV’s Range
Weirdly, Genesis has not revealed how far the GV60 Magma will go. To get an idea of the range, you have to look at the Ioniq 5 N, which has an EPA-rated maximum range of 221 miles. This comes thanks to an 84kWh battery pack, which takes roughly 18 minutes to recharge from 10 to 80 percent at a 350kW charging station. The GV60 Magma will also have simulated gear changes and sound like the Ioniq 5 N, to try and replicate the feel of a combustion engine.
If you are looking to get one in the United States, though, you may have to wait. While it will hit dealerships in a few weeks, it will initially only be available in California, New York, and New Jersey. But sales will soon expand across the rest of America.
