There is no denying that Chinese EVs are taking the world by storm at the moment. The likes of BYD and Nio are producing some spectacular cars, and more companies are emerging as a real force in the automotive industry. One of those is Yangwang.

Yangwang is the luxury car division of BYD Auto, and it already has a few models available on its roster. The first was the Yangwang U8, launched in 2023, a full-size SUV with a range-extended electric powertrain. The Yangwang U7 arrived in 2025 as a full-size luxury sedan, with full electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

In 2024, however, Yangwang launched the pinnacle of its current lineup. This was the U9, a monster electric supercar, with four electric motors, all-wheel drive, and up to nearly 3,000hp on offer. It is one of the fastest production cars ever made, and easily one of the world’s fastest EVs.

Sightings of the Yangwang U9 have been rare; however, one has recently been spotted. A U9 was seen around the streets of Monaco during the Grand Prix weekend, and it is reported that this Dubai-registered vehicle belongs to entrepreneur Richard Skelhorn.

Images and photos of the red Yangwang U9 were shared widely on social media across the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, and more have cropped up since. Finished in a stunning shade of red, this is one of the first production examples of the electric supercar to be built, and it was quite a spectacle as well.

Seeing the car mix it in with the usual traffic in the principality certainly got people’s attention. It’s been spotted driving around the F1 track, cruising among a wide array of other cars. Footage shared of it has shown it driving past casinos, and all without making a sound. Even in Monaco, it stood out, given how rare the U9 is right now, as well as the quietness of its electric motors.

A couple of other clips have given us a look at the interior of the supercar, and it certainly looks the part from within the cabin. The car as a whole looked spectacular, mainly thanks to the red paintwork but also features such as the rear wing, front splitter, and the very cool headlight design. This car isn’t just about showing off, however, as there is an incredible amount of power sat under the hood.

This Is How Fast the Yangwang U9 Really Is

Yangwang and BYD launched the car in 2024, and it certainly took a lot of people by surprise. Its power comes from four electric motors, with it having 1,287-2,977hp in total depending on the model. The most extreme version of the Chinese car is the hugely impressive Xtreme variant.

The power that the Xtreme version produces is astronomical. Under the hood, the car has four TZ204XYA motors, with each one offering 744hp. Combine the figures, and you get a truly astonishing 2,977 hp in total. The Xtreme version reached a top speed of 303.33mph when it was unleashed at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany. The U9 is the most powerful production car ever built, so Monaco isn’t really the place in which it can go and stretch its legs.
