Someone Just Fixed The Acura NSX’ Sound, And It’s Incredible

The Acura NSX has never been about brute force. It’s always been about balance, precision, lightweight engineering, and a V6 that punches way above its weight.

However, if there’s one thing enthusiasts have debated for years, it’s the sound.

While the NSX is brilliant to drive, not everyone would call it the best-sounding supercar out there.

That might have just changed.

This Isn’t Your Typical NSX Exhaust

What you’re looking at is a prototype system from Bad Cat Engineering called the “Maximum Meows” setup.

And yeah, the name sounds playful, but the engineering behind it is anything but.

This is a full 6-into-1 header system, designed from scratch to completely transform how the NSX sounds and breathes.

Instead of the usual V6 tone, this setup aims for something sharper, higher-pitched, and far more exotic.

Built Like A Race Car Component

This isn’t just some off-the-shelf exhaust. Every part of the system was carefully engineered, starting with a full CAD design and a 3D scan of the car to get the fitment perfect.

The headers use equal-length runners that follow the engine’s firing order, something you normally see in proper race applications.

Even more interesting is the collector. It’s a 3D-printed stainless steel 6-into-1 design, something that would’ve been nearly impossible to manufacture a few years ago.

The rest of the system continues that theme, with CNC-bent piping, stepped runner diameters, and even titanium exhaust tips created using additive manufacturing.

So… How Does It Sound?

Instead of the typical V6 growl, the NSX now sounds like a mix between a high-revving sport bike and a full-on race car.

It’s sharper. It’s louder. If you imagine a group of sirens fighting a pack of howling banshees, you’re probably not far off.

It actually gives the car a much more exotic character, closer to what people expect from something mid-engined and performance-focused.

Not everyone will love it, but if you’re into naturally aspirated engines screaming at high RPM, this is exactly the kind of noise you want.

Not Just About The Sound

There’s also a performance angle here, as a properly designed 6-into-1 header can improve exhaust flow and scavenging, which means better efficiency and potential power gains.

Bad Cat Engineering hasn’t released final numbers yet, but this exhaust is about making the engine work better, not just creating more noise, and the fact that this is still a prototype means it’s only going to get more refined from here.

The NSX has always been a bit of an underdog in the supercar world, and this setup changes that, giving the car a voice that finally matches its character.

In a world where modern performance cars are getting quieter, heavier, and more filtered, something like this feels refreshingly raw. Exactly how a car like the NSX should be.
