A woman who boasted she was an unsafe driver and admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel has been jailed after crashing at high speed with five teenagers inside her vehicle.

Faye Dawson, 50, was sentenced after a terrifying late-night incident in Cheadle, Staffordshire, where she lost control of a five-seat Vauxhall Corsa while reportedly showing off to the young passengers.

The court heard the crash happened around 11.20 p.m. in March last year. Dashcam footage from inside the car captured the teenagers screaming and begging Dawson to slow down as the vehicle sped through residential roads and approached roundabouts recklessly.

By the end of the ride, what may have started as a thrill-seeking moment became a violent rollover crash that left several children injured and deeply traumatized.

Dashcam Captured Chilling Warnings Before the Crash

According to prosecutors, Dawson could be heard making shocking remarks as she drove. She allegedly described herself as a “rally car driver” and warned the passengers that getting in the car meant risking their lives.

She also reportedly asked the teens whether they were wearing seatbelts, then told them if they died, she would not be responsible.

If that was meant as a joke, nobody in the car seemed to find it funny.

Moments later, the teenagers can be heard pleading with her to slow down. Some reportedly shouted for others to hold on as the car reached around 80 mph.

Dangerous Driving Through Residential Streets

The court heard Dawson picked up the teenagers locally before heading toward Meir in Stoke-on-Trent.

During the journey, she allegedly failed to slow for roundabouts, drove on the wrong side of the road, and narrowly avoided parked cars.

Eventually, the vehicle left the roadway, struck the verge, and rolled over, trapping those inside.

It is the kind of sequence traffic officers warn about constantly. Speed plus impaired judgment plus passengers equals disaster waiting for a postcode.

Teenagers Injured and Left Traumatized

Four of the five children, aged 14 and 15, were injured in the crash.

One teenage girl suffered a spinal fracture and required hospital treatment. In a victim statement, she said she believed she was going to die.

She also described needing time away from school to recover, suffering nightmares and flashbacks, and experiencing anxiety whenever traveling in vehicles. She reportedly dealt with back pain for six months after the incident.

Physical injuries can heal. The emotional damage from a crash like this often takes far longer.

Court Hands Down Jail Sentence and Driving Ban

Dawson, of Nicholson Road, Cheadle, admitted dangerous driving.

She was sentenced to 14 months in prison and banned from driving for 55 months.

The punishment reflects how seriously courts view reckless behavior behind the wheel, especially when children are placed at risk.

What Drivers Can Learn From This Incident

This case is a blunt reminder that a car is not a stage, and passengers are not an audience.

Showing off, speeding, driving under the influence, and ignoring terrified passengers can turn a routine trip into a life-changing tragedy in seconds.

It also highlights the importance of young passengers speaking up when they feel unsafe. The teenagers in this case did exactly that. Sadly, the driver chose not to listen.

When someone tells you they are a dangerous driver, believe them the first time.
