An incredible video has been posted on the r/dashcams subreddit, showing a man getting pushed along in his car by a pickup truck. He voiced his worries that pickups are too tall, and that this means they may not see some cars in front of them.
The video is simply captioned “Because of course trucks need to be taller,” and at the time of writing, it has 18,000 upvotes and 1,600 comments, as well as 2,400 shares. It led to a lively bit of discussion below in the comments section.
The video shows a man driving his car and then coming to a stop at a set of traffic lights. His dashcam and cabin camera show that whatever car he is in sits pretty low to the ground. It is dwarfed by every other vehicle around him, including the truck behind.
We then see the truck behind inch closer and closer, before the driver hits the back of the car and begins pushing it along. It does raise questions as to whether cars and trucks now are too big, and how dangerous it might be for those of us who have smaller vehicles.
This Is What the Dashcam Footage Showed Us

The video shows the driver heading down the road with fresh tires to put onto his ‘new wheels,’ and it is at this point that the truck ends up hitting him. He heads along the road and eventually comes to red lights, so he stops behind the car in front of him and waits for the lights to turn green. At this point, a large pickup truck appears behind him.
The footage shows the truck appear in the rear window, with the driver in the video saying, “There is a big truck; I didn’t even notice him pull up behind me,” as he continues to wait at the lights. “He stops; I’m just vibin ‘,” he added as the lights remain on red. However, at this point, the truck then starts to inch forward and gets much closer to the car we are riding in.
The GMC truck gets closer and closer, and then, eventually, it does hit the back of the small car. There is a sudden jolt, and then the lights ahead go green, and the cars start moving. So the truck driver, apparently totally oblivious to the car ahead of him, just keeps on moving forward and pushes the poor car forward without realizing what he is doing.
The Car Driver Has To Get Out of the Car to Alert the Truck Driver

It was only when the driver of the car got out of the car and honked his horn that the truck actually stopped. A bystander also came running up to help the driver of the car and to tell the truck driver what he was doing. It made for some pretty alarming viewing. You do have to wonder how the truck never saw the car below him, as surely at some point he would have spotted it as he drove up to the red lights?
This video, of course, led to plenty of chatter in the comments section. “Non-lifted trucks are also [expletive] dumb unless you actually work on a farm or a construction site,” said one user. “You shouldn’t be allowed to have a truck without a special permit that requires a reason. Half of the trucks out there have never carried anything but groceries. It’s a [expletive] plague,” added another, angrily. “The new pickups coming out don’t even fit in regular parking spaces anymore. It’s absolutely absurd,” said another. Clearly, a lot of people sympathized with the car driver.
