Hit and Run Driver Receives Instant Karma in Dashcam Footage

Dashcam footage can showcase some of the best and worst of human behavior. Typically, it is the worst, as we get to see just how bad some drivers are and the sort of stuff they get up to. The r/dashcams subreddit on Reddit is a great place to watch this type of stuff.

One such video has recently been posted to the subreddit. The caption simply reads “Driver hits and runs and instantly gets karma,” and it shows an incredible incident that took place at a traffic light after a hit-and-run.

In the footage, we can see a few cars trying to navigate through the lights, and then one car appears from the left and comes to a halt. It appeared to be letting another car pull out in front of us, but it didn’t stop suddenly.

Clearly, whoever was driving the car behind was going way too fast. After we saw that car stop, it slammed into the back of that car and appeared to cause quite a bit of damage. The driver of the car decided the best thing to do was to run away. But he didn’t realize a police car was right next to him.

What Happened in the Accident?

In the footage, we see a car ahead of us attempting to turn right at a set of traffic lights. You can, of course, turn right at red lights in the United States. Oncoming traffic prevents the car from turning, but one approaching from the left slows down to let the car in front of our dashcam vehicle go.

Yet just a second or two later, another car shoots into view from the left and slams into the rear of the car that had just come to a stop. The two cars come to rest for a few seconds, while each driver tries to figure out what had just happened. Then the driver of the car that hit the back made a serious mistake.

The driver of that car decided to just drive off. We see them drive around the car they’d hit and speed off as quickly as they could. What they didn’t realize was that a police car was next to them. And upon seeing this, the police car put its blue lights on and shot after the car making its escape. We can hear lots of laughter from inside the car on the dashcam when they realize what just happened.

Reddit Users Loved What They Had Witnessed

It will come as no surprise to learn that viewers on Reddit also loved seeing the cop make a dash for the car as it tried to make its escape. “Guy chose jail over a ticket,” said one of the comments on the post. However, quite a few blamed the cop for the initial incident, suggesting that their slow edging into the intersection was the reason the accident happened at all. “Can we also say that it was kind of the cops’ fault for insinuating that he’s going to pull out,” said one user.

The cop did look to be moving out too slowly. But we don’t know why they were doing that or whether anything had happened before this short clip began. Despite that, you have to admit that the car that rammed into the rear of the other could have stopped. There was no sudden stop in front, and it looked like they simply weren’t paying attention.

They certainly got the karma they deserved after trying to drive away in a hurry.
