Carvana has been a game-changer for many people, revolutionizing the way we buy cars. We get nearly endless information about a car before we buy it, whereas before, you’d often be lucky to get that much detail. However, there do seem to be pitfalls to sites like Carvana, as one man has discovered.
A TikTok user has recounted an experience where he claims to have fallen for a classic ‘used car lot’ trick despite shopping at Carvana. TikTok user Luke (@lukefromscout) believes that Carvana isn’t worth it.
The social media user said in his video that the company has taken the same used car lot method that has been going on for decades, but has just tweaked the image of it to make it seem like it is different. Plus, he claimed that their cars do not always meet the standards you would expect from a used car.
You have to be careful sometimes, as a lot of people perhaps have bad experiences and their claims can be more of an opinion than a fact. But, with what Luke has said, there are some claims that do have some evidence to support them.

Luke claimed that Carvana isn’t as much of an ‘innovation’ as the company likes to claim it is. “They’ve taken the same used car lot method that’s been in use for decades and just tweaked the image of it,” he said. “They want you to think they have a ‘no haggle,’ fair price. In reality, they’re just baking in the dealer documentation fees and whatever other fees that go into straight dealer profit,” added the TikTok user.
His biggest gripe seemed to be with the condition of the cars. Luke claimed that, in reality, they do not meet the standards that you would expect from them. Luke said they are taking in so many used cars, and many of them have a checkered past. “Some of them have damage reported, maintenance not performed on time,” he said. The TikTok user didn’t think they are of any better quality than at a regular dealership.
Some of what the social media user said were just opinions. But there is some evidence to support what he says. Carvana does act like a used car lot, but with the primary focus being online. However, it also claims that its cars are to a higher standard, and that they get “Carvana Certified.” This is based on a 150-point inspection that checks for accidents, damage, and anything reported on Carfax and AutoCheck.
Have Others Had Bad Experiences at Carvana?
As the comment section showed on Luke’s TikTok video, there was a split opinion on Carvana and its issues. “Sell to Carvana, don’t buy from Carvana,” one of them said. “He’s not wrong! I work at a mechanic shop that works with Carvana’s warranty provider Silver Rock; they suck & so do the cars at Carvana,” said another.
Others, however, were a bit more supportive. “There’s nothing wrong with Carvana. Every used car can have issues,” said a different user. “Carvana has made it easy, stress-free, and transparent. I’ve bought numerous cars and nothing but a great experience. Stop hating on disruptors,” they added. So it seems that yes, a bad experience at Carvana is possible. But so too is a good one as well.
