Modern vehicles collect a lot more data than most drivers realize.

Navigation history, vehicle diagnostics, app usage, and even driving behavior can all be tracked through connected services.

Now, one Ford F-150 owner says he discovered his truck was sharing driving data, and he wasn’t happy about it.

His warning video quickly went viral online.

The Viral Video That Sparked Concern

Facebook creator Matt Randolph, also known as Mr Global, posted a video showing viewers how he disabled a setting inside his F-150.

He claimed the truck was collecting driving behavior data and sharing it with insurance companies.

According to Randolph, that data could potentially impact insurance premiums.

In the video, he navigates through the truck’s settings menu and disables a feature labeled “Share Driving Data.”

Ford Responded To The Claims

Ford Motor Company pushed back on the claims.

A Ford spokesperson said insurance companies never received connected vehicle data without explicit customer consent.

The company said customers previously had to opt in through both their insurer and Ford.

Ford also stated it stopped supporting those usage-based insurance programs in late 2024.

Ford suggested drivers should also review third-party apps connected to their phones.

Apps involving navigation, fuel savings, and connected vehicle services may also collect location and driving data.

That includes apps unrelated to Ford itself.

Many drivers may be agreeing to data sharing without fully reading the terms.

Why Drivers Are Paying More Attention

The story struck a nerve because many drivers already feel insurance pricing lacks transparency.

Some viewers said they avoid driving-monitoring apps entirely.

Others claimed usage-based insurance programs have actually lowered their rates.

Either way, this story is another reminder that modern cars collect far more information than most owners realize, and it’s worth checking your settings.
