Few people are as big an automotive enthusiast as Jay Leno. We all know that the American comedian has an incredible collection of rare and exotic cars, often showcased on the Jay Leno’s Garage YouTube channel, and he is often seen out and about driving a good number of them.
Yet despite owning almost every car you could think of, the American comedian and former chat show host can still spring a surprise. So imagine the shock that he caused after turning up at a car meet in one of the rarest Ford Mustangs ever made.
In 2025, Leno took delivery of his Ford Mustang GTD. This car turned the muscle car into a supercar, and Ford boss Jim Farley personally delivered it to Leno’s Garage. Only 1,000 of these have been made, and while it looks like a race car, it is very much road legal.
It is the most expensive and most powerful production Mustang ever made. And wanting to show it off, Leno turned up at a car meet not long after he had taken delivery of the car, and surprised everyone there by turning up in the Mustang GTD.
How Jay Leno Shocked Those at the Car Meet
The car meet took place with YouTuber Speedster404, after he and some friends in their supercars went for a canyon run in Los Angeles, not far from where Leno’s garage is located in Burbank. The cars were parked up, and they had a huge shock as a Ford Mustang GTD just rolled in, with it seemingly the first time they had seen the car.
It turned out it was Leno in the Mustang, and he rolled in and surprised all of the other car owners who had gathered at the top of the canyon road. “I’m out supered!” Leno joked as he rolled in, and he allowed everyone to get a closer look at the Mustang. After pausing and having a brief chat with the car owners, Leno said, “Have fun, you guys,” and headed off on his journey.
Everyone at the car meet was taken aback that Leno had just popped in to say hello. Of course, they all flocked around him and his car, and for good reason. The 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, that makes 815hp and 664lb-ft of torque, made a great sound as the comedian headed away, clearly just out for a relaxing drive in one of his most recent additions to the collection.
Leno Is Not Like Regular Car Collectors

Seeing Leno out driving one of his cars is a great sight. Because it shows that the man doesn’t just let his cars gather dust or become garage queens in his huge collection. In fact, everything that he has in the garage can run and drive, and the cars are regularly taken out for periods, although it is the more modern ones that see more use as they are easier to deal with.
Leno has spoken in the past about how regularly he drives his vast collection. Even cars such as his McLaren F1, worth a huge $20 million+ in 2026, get taken out for regular drives, albeit a bit less than when it was brand new. Seeing Leno in his Mustang GTD shows the passion he has for his cars and that he isn’t afraid to head out into the hills and put them through their paces.
