Dashcam and security camera footage can provide us with some utterly bewildering and sometimes unbelievable moments. The r/dashcams subreddit on Reddit has many of those contained in its posts. One of these was recently uploaded by Inevitable_Topic_530, showing a school bus involved in an accident with a pickup truck.

The video shows a student walking out of his home and heading towards the bus, which is coming to a stop. The bus driver isn’t slamming the brakes in a rush, but is coming to a stop in a normal manner. But behind him, there was trouble.

A pickup truck then came roaring down the road and, for whatever reason, it didn’t slow down at all. The truck slammed into the back of the school bus in a massive crash, just before the student managed to reach the bus. Thankfully for him, he was unharmed.

The footage also shows us a touching moment with the young boy’s father as the two of them embrace just before the father goes to check out the bus. It is quite a terrifying yet absorbing clip, and you have to wonder why the truck driver seemingly wasn’t paying attention.

In the footage, the bus comes to a stop as normal outside the student’s house. It is just a second or two later that the pickup truck comes into view and slams into the rear of the bus. The impact is so big that it pushes the bus forward, just after the doors have opened to let the student on board.

After the accident, the student steps back in amazement as debris from the bus and truck flies all over the front lawn and road. A lot of fluid has also been spilled onto the road following the crash. Thankfully, a closer look at the footage suggested that the truck did try to slow down just before impact, with it appearing to lurch forward as if the brakes had been applied, and it’s possible it did lose some speed before the impact.

Clearly, from the footage, the truck took the brunt of the impact. The front end has taken a lot of damage, while the bus appears to have escaped quite as much damage from the impact. In fact, the rear has remained quite intact, although you have to hope that those inside have escaped serious injuries, as well as the driver and potential passengers of the pickup truck. Towards the end of the video, the father hugs the student upon realizing what he has just avoided, and he then goes up to check on those involved in the accident.

What Did Reddit Users Say About the Accident?

Reddit users had a lot to say about the violent accident. “That hug was sweet,” said the top commenter, regarding the father. “I imagine he heard the crash and got really scared something had happened to the kid,” said another, while another said, “There was some debris that narrowly missed the kid! Scary stuff”. It was quite a scary accident. The school bus’s design, which sees the rear lift up, helped to prevent the bus itself from going through the windshield of the truck. Plus, they are built incredibly strongly as well.

The worry is why the driver of the truck didn’t stop in time. The bus stopping would have meant he would have had to wait behind it anyway, as its flashing lights and red stop sign would have been deployed to stop any traffic from passing. It is more than likely down to a simple lapse of concentration that caused the accident.
