Dashcam Footage Shows a Car That “Might Need Its Alignment Checked”

Sometimes, you can’t beat a good bit of dashcam footage. Some of the best of this footage comes from Reddit, thanks to the r/dashcams SubReddit, and a post made a few days ago by user ZauzTheBlacksmith has to be seen several times to be believed.

The footage shows what looks like an SUV driving down the road, with something clearly amiss. The video is captioned “I think buddy in the left lane needs his alignment checked,” and we can see the SUV crabbing its way along the road, clearly in some difficulty.

Smoke is pouring out of the tyres, and there is a part of the rear bodywork flapping around, having come off from the rest of the car. It is stating the obvious, but there is quite clearly a major suspension issue for the car to be going sideways down the road like that.

Sadly, the video doesn’t get into a lot of detail about what happened. But the 24-second clip doesn’t leave a lot to the imagination. How this happened to the SUV is another question. Was it a suspension failure, or does the bodywork problem suggest something more serious?

What the Dashcam Footage Shows Us

In the video, we can see the SUV in the left lane of a three-lane road, going almost completely sideways. Zooming into the video, you can see the front wheels seemingly at full lock to the right, but the car clearly wants to go to the left. It is a surreal sight watching it crab its way down the highway, with the tires clearly taking a beating and smoke coming off them.

Any video like this is going to generate a buzz, and the comments section proved it. There was plenty of humor on show, from those discussing the video overall to those totally perplexed by what they were seeing. “Bad part is, he’s staying between the lines better than a third of the drivers out there,” said one of the top comments. “I was just thinking this takes SOME level of talent,” said a reply to that user.

The destruction of the tires was also a point of discussion in the video. “That’s one way to burn through tires,” said another top comment, with a reply saying, “That’s a tire shop’s dream customer right there.” Any tire shop watching that footage was probably licking their lips and seeing dollar signs popping up. As would a garage too, knowing they could get big bucks fixing what is very clearly a substantial suspension failure.

What Actually Happened to the Car?

We don’t know how the car got into this mess, but it’s clear something major went wrong. The body damage is a good indicator that it was an accident, and not just a random failure of the suspension. It would appear the SUV was hit and it bent something out of alignment, causing the truly unusual sight shown in the dashcam footage.

Whatever happened to the car, there is no denying it is a bizarre and yet somewhat amusing sight to behold.
