When you are out and about in your car, the last thing you expect is to be involved in an accident. Even less so, you probably don’t think that if you are in an accident, it will involve a cop car turning into you.
Well, sadly for someone, that is what has happened. On the r/dashcams subreddit, user Zexious has posted a video that shows the embarrassing moment a cop car turned into them while they were out driving. Thankfully, capturing the footage on a dashcam saved them from being blamed.
Another piece of good news was that, despite it being an embarrassing collision, the cop was reportedly very good with the dashcam car driver. Nor did they try to blame them, and was happy to take the blame for what was, in reality, just an unfortunate accident between the two cars.
Reddit users, of course, wanted to know more about the incident, especially before the original poster posted an update regarding who was at fault. It isn’t very often that you see a police car involved in an accident, especially when it wasn’t down to a car chase or the pursuit of a suspect.
What Actually Happened in the Footage?
Guess I should’ve drove more defensively

The footage begins with the dashcam car driving down a road in Canada, and we can just see the cop car is in the lane to our right. All looks normal, and then the cop car begins to slow down before basically coming to a stop. Then, it starts to turn to the left, with it appearing that its indicator light isn’t on.
There is little time for the dashcam car to react. It can’t swerve to the left as a car is coming past in the opposite direction. So all they can do is sound the horn and try to slow down. Sadly, it was too late in this instance to avoid the collision. The dashcam car driver did try to move over a lane when it was clear, but they were hit by the police car.
The clip ends there. However, there is an update issued underneath by the original poster. “Update/Info: This happened in Canada. The cop was chill and did not try to blame me. He mentioned he thought he had his blinker on initially, but didn’t press further,” they said. “Footage helped prove that I wasn’t at fault, and helped me get a free rental,” added the Reddit user. So thankfully, they didn’t get blamed for the accident. As you would expect given the nature of the crash, Reddit had a field day in the comments section.
Reddit Users Did Not Hold Back With Their Comments

“Sorry, Canada… everyone apologized, even OP!” said one of the comments. “Nah, cop admitted fault. Wish I asked what he was trying to do,” was a comment from the poster of the video. “I had a similar accident. Cop admitted fault. There was no emergency call. The cop didn’t have their lights or siren on when they made an illegal turn,” said another user, recounting a similar incident.
The police can get a fair share of criticism, but it is refreshing to hear that the officer in this instance held their hands up and admitted they were at fault. They could have easily tried to get out of it and blame the dashcam driver, but it is good to hear that wasn’t the case. Next time, hopefully they will be a bit more careful when making a maneuver like that.
