Chery is pushing deeper into the flagship SUV fight with the new Tiggo X. Revealed at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, it’s a large three-row hybrid SUV aimed at families who want space, tech, and serious range in one package.
This isn’t just another ordinary Tiggo model with a bigger body. Chery is positioning the Tiggo X as a smart luxury SUV, giving it a stronger design, more advanced driver assistance tech, and a powertrain built for long-distance use.
China’s large SUV market is becoming increasingly competitive, especially as plug-in hybrids and extended-range models gain popularity with buyers who still want combustion backup.
That means the Tiggo X has to do more than look good. It has to give Chery a proper answer to rivals from brands like BYD, while also proving the Tiggo name can move further upmarket.
A Bigger, Bolder Tiggo
The Tiggo X sits above the rest of Chery’s mainstream SUV lineup. It effectively becomes the brand’s new flagship Tiggo model, positioned above vehicles like the Tiggo 9L but below Chery’s more premium Exeed range.
Visually, it takes on a more upright and rugged shape than earlier Tiggo models. The high hood, wide wheel arches, and boxier profile give it a more serious presence, which should help it stand out in a crowded segment.
It’s a big SUV as well, measuring 5,050 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,800 mm tall. The 2,950 mm wheelbase allows for a three-row, seven-seat layout, making it a direct play for family buyers.
Chery also says the body structure uses around 85 percent high-strength steel. That should help with rigidity and safety, while also supporting the SUV’s more capable positioning.
Hybrid Power With Serious Range

The headline figure is the combined range. In plug-in hybrid form, the Tiggo X is claimed to deliver more than 1,500 km, or roughly 932 miles, under mixed driving conditions.
It also offers an estimated 200 km of pure electric range. That’s around 124 miles, which is enough for many daily commutes without needing the gasoline engine at all.
Power comes from Chery’s hybrid system, producing a combined 476 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque. Buyers will reportedly get 1.5-liter turbo and 2.0-liter turbo engine options, both paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Those numbers put the Tiggo X well beyond basic family SUV territory. It’s clearly designed to offer the flexibility of a long-range hybrid while still delivering enough performance to feel premium.
Chery Wants It To Do More Than School Runs
Chery isn’t presenting the Tiggo X as a soft road-only family hauler. The SUV gets MRC electromagnetic adaptive suspension and a Snow Leopard full-time four-wheel-drive system.
Those systems are meant to improve traction, stability, and comfort across different driving conditions. Whether owners will actually take it off-road is another question, but the hardware gives it a more capable image.
In China’s current SUV market, buyers are increasingly drawn to big, tech-heavy vehicles that promise adventure capability, even if most of the driving happens in cities.
The Tiggo X seems designed to fit that trend perfectly. It looks rugged enough to sell the dream while still offering the comfort and space expected from a flagship family SUV.
Advanced Driver Assistance Is Part Of The Package
Technology is another major part of the Tiggo X’s pitch. Chery has equipped it with the Falcon Pilot 700 driver assistance system, which uses a lidar sensor setup.
The system supports L2-level assisted driving functions. That means it can help with certain point-to-point driving scenarios, but the driver still needs to remain alert and in control.
This kind of tech is quickly becoming expected in China’s upper-end SUV market. Automakers are using assisted driving features as a major selling point, especially when targeting younger, tech-focused buyers.
For Chery, the Tiggo X needs to show that the brand can compete not just on price and range, but also on software and intelligent driving capability.
A Tough Segment To Crack
The Tiggo X enters a market full of strong rivals. BYD’s latest large hybrid SUVs have already shown huge demand, with some models generating tens of thousands of pre-orders almost immediately.
That puts pressure on Chery to make the Tiggo X feel special. Plenty of range and strong power output help, but buyers in this segment now expect big screens, advanced safety tech, premium cabins, and aggressive pricing.
Chery also has internal pressure to deal with. Some upper Tiggo models have seen weaker domestic sales recently, meaning the Tiggo X has to do more than simply expand the lineup. It needs to reset expectations for the brand’s large SUVs.
A Flagship With A Lot To Prove
On paper, the Tiggo X has the right ingredients. It’s large, powerful, stylish, and promises the kind of long-range hybrid capability that makes sense for buyers who aren’t ready to go fully electric.
The real test will come when pricing, final specifications, and real-world driving impressions arrive. In China’s current market, even a strong product can get lost quickly if it doesn’t hit the value equation perfectly.
Still, Chery clearly understands where demand is heading. Big electrified SUVs are hot, and the Tiggo X gives the company a stronger weapon in that fight.
If it delivers on its promises, this could become one of the most important Tiggo models Chery has launched in years.
