Cadillac is currently having to recall all of its 2026 and 2027 model year electric Vistiq three-row SUVs due to an issue with the third-row seating inside the EV. With the car only being on the market since the 2026 model year, 100 percent of all the SUVs have had to be recalled.
That is estimated to be around 14,540 vehicles built, all from November 2024 to June 2026, thanks to problems with the third row. Deliveries of the Vistiq have also been stopped until the American car manufacturer can find a solution.
The recall is available to read via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and there is a danger that some people may become trapped by the seats if they detect an obstruction. “Smaller occupants could become trapped under the seatback, increasing the risk of injury,” said the NHTSA.
It is a blow for Cadillac, which has put a lot of work into the Vistiq, one of its primary models in the United States. A temporary fix has been issued to dealerships to inform customers. But until there is a permanent solution, no more deliveries will be forthcoming.
This Is Why Cadillac Has Issued a Recall
According to the recall, the problem is rooted in the third-row seat, which can fold down at the press-and-release of a button in the trunk or on a pillar next to the seat. The recall says that in some cases, the seat may stop and then not reverse when an obstacle is detected. That could lead to smaller occupants being trapped under the seatback.
This could, of course, lead to a potential injury, something that nobody wants to see. With a staggering 14,540 models being affected, this is a massive recall for the American manufacturer. As of June 8th 2026, all shipments for the Vistiq have been paused while a solution to the problem is found. For now, dealerships have been informed of a temporary fix to the seat problem.
If owners disable the third-row folding feature, then the issue will not occur. This would keep children and smaller occupants in the back safe. However, this option needs to be done at the dealership before they drive off with the car. There is no manual way to raise or lower the seat. Of course, those who already have the cars can take them to dealerships for them to solve the problem.
Cadillac Is Working on a Fix for the Problem
Despite the temporary solution, Cadillac is working hard to find a permanent solution to the issue. When a fix is finally found, the seat will automatically return to the upright position if an obstruction is detected in the folding process. This isn’t the first time a folding seat issue has initiated a recall.
Hyundai found a similar problem with the Palisade. In this instance, the seat would continue to fold after it had found an obstacle. It caused Hyundai to recall 68.000 units of the Limited and Calligraphy trim models. This was done after the death of a young child in Ohio due to the safety problem. Cadillac has at least acted quickly to get it resolved as soon as possible.
