A man decided to build a fake Tesla Cybertruck, and not only that, but he also decided it would be a good idea to have it parked outside a Tesla dealership. He probably didn’t expect staff to come out and tell him what they thought.
YouTuber Will Bower decided to build his own version of the controversial truck from wood and a metal skip. The Cybertruck has been polarizing ever since it was launched, with the design not to everyone’s taste, and that has been reflected in the poor sales of the truck.
Bower decided to see if he could improve upon the overall design of the truck. So he took a load of wood and a metal skip and worked wonders, transforming them into his own DIY Cybertruck, complete with LED lighting and interior amenities.
This truck does drive, too. With the base of a mobility scooter, this homemade Cybertruck is drivable, although you certainly wouldn’t want to take it onto the highway or freeway. Parking it outside a Tesla dealership, the YouTuber wasn’t sure if he’d get the reaction he was hoping for, but he certainly did.
How the YouTuber Made His DIY Tesla Cybertruck
Bower took an upside-down metal skip and worked wonders with it. To enable it to move, he used a mobility scooter as the basis for his design. He then heavily modified the skip, adding wheel arches, installing LED lighting, and adding a functioning interior. It wasn’t quite as comfortable as a real Cybertruck interior, but it’s the thought that counts.
To help craft the angular exterior, the YouTuber used wood panels to recreate that familiar Tesla look. While it is a lot smaller than the real truck and not quite as vulgar-looking, you might be fooled into thinking it is a real Cybertruck at a very quick glance. Watching it come together in his video was quite something, as he transformed the upside-down skip into a custom Tesla EV.
“I kind of like it for how bad it is,” said Bower as he painted his creation. He was quite happy with the back of the truck, and after painting the red light bar, he even managed to add a light bar across it. Initially, he wasn’t going to make it drivable, but he took the mobility scooter used to make a drivable bath and placed it inside his new Tesla Cybertruck body. With the truck all ready to go, it was time to take it to the Tesla dealership.
The YouTuber Actually Slept in His Cybertruck
To give himself an even bigger challenge, Bower decided to sleep in the Cybertruck outside the Tesla dealership. What was quite ironic was that he was driving it around much more expensive cars, including quite a few real Tesla EVs. Watching him drive it around was quite something, especially as Bower couldn’t actually see outside of the painted black windows of his creation.
The next morning, having survived the night, some Tesla employees came out to voice their opinions on the truck. “I think that’s awesome,” one said. “[It’s] so good! So jokes [hilarious].” Bower was quite amazed at the reaction the truck got, but given it was a DIY creation and based on a mobility scooter, he’d certainly take that response.
