Imagine being the owner of a Ford F-250 pickup truck and then breaking down and requiring a tow to a mechanic. Now imagine that you are the owner of the F-250, and you are taken home by the controversial Tesla Cybertruck.
Well, thanks to a post from Joseph Salamida on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, we’ve seen just that. Salamida posted on the forum that he had to go pick up his own Ford F-250, which had recently been taken to a mechanic’s workshop for repairs.
Now, one thing that Salamida could have done was call a tow truck to pick up his Ford. However, that would require a bit of money, and it could also be a bit stressful to arrange. So he decided to get his Tesla Cybertruck and a trailer, and go get it himself.
That is what led to the post on the forums with Salamida showing off his Cybertruck, which had gone to the workshop to pick up the Ford F-250. The irony was not lost on the Ford owner after he went to get his old internal-combustion-powered pickup truck.
The Ford Was a Big Load for the Tesla Cybertruck
Salamida had to go and pick up his pickup truck from his mechanic, no pun intended. He thought the best thing to do was to use his Cybertruck and see how well it performed towing a load that weighed around 10,000lbs. That is a lot of weight, and some have been critical of how much the Cybertruck can actually tow.
But Salamida was actually very impressed by what happened next. In his forum post, he said the EV was incredibly smooth and effortless when towing the Ford. It did not seem to struggle in the slightest, able to put the power down and pull the trailer with the F-250 behind it. Given that Tesla wanted it to be a workhorse, the Cybertruck certainly proved its worth in this instance.
There was a slightly ironic and amusing twist to what the Cybertruck was doing. The mighty EV was towing a Ford F-250 with a 7.3-liter Power Stroke diesel engine under the hood. That meant it was towing everything that it was meant to replace and challenge, with the future quite literally hauling the past. That was something not lost on Salamida.
“The irony of the Cybertruck hauling the old 7.3 Power Stroke to the mechanic was not lost on me,” he said in his forum post.
The Futuristic Truck Easily Towed the Old Ford F-250
It was quite a sight to behold. The large lump of metal that is the Tesla, quietly pulling along the Ford F-250, a truck that by its very nature is never going to be quiet. It’s a strange sight, but it did give Salamida a chance to see just how well his electric pickup truck towed. Some have argued whether it’s even worth an electric truck towing anything, as it can have quite a large impact on the EV’s overall range.
There have also been clips posted of electric trucks competing against regular trucks in tow challenges or tug-of-war contests, and older combustion-powered trucks have fared quite well. They have been able to put up a fight on more than one occasion. However, in this instance, there was nothing the Ford could do to stop itself from being towed away by the Tesla.
The Cybertruck has had a troubled existence, and it isn’t very popular. But at least it’s shown it can tow some serious weight in the real world.
