A 12-year-old was arrested in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky on Thursday after allegedly causing several traffic collisions during the same afternoon in a stolen vehicle. The day involved more than one pursuit, more than one crash, and more than one decision by troopers not to chase the car any further. A woman in another vehicle also ended up with minor injuries from the final collision.

According to the Kentucky State Police, the stolen vehicle had already been pursued by troopers multiple times earlier in the day. Each time was called off, however, due to public safety concerns. The vehicle and the driver eventually ended up at the intersection of Parkview Drive and Glensboro Road.

That intersection is where the day’s last collision happened, and the only one that hurt anyone. The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene on foot. Lawrenceburg Police took the juvenile into custody a short time later.

Charges have been filed against the 12-year-old, who hasn’t been publicly identified because of their age. Kentucky State Police then began working on a collision reconstruction at the Parkview-Glensboro intersection. Glensboro Road was closed for several hours while they did.

What State Police Say Happened

According to the Kentucky State Police, a 12-year-old juvenile was driving a stolen vehicle in Lawrenceburg on Thursday and allegedly caused several non-injury collisions over the course of the same afternoon. The same vehicle had been pursued by KSP troopers multiple times that day, and each pursuit was terminated by troopers because of the danger to the public.

The vehicle was later involved in another crash at the intersection of Parkview Drive and Glensboro Road. A female driver in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries in that collision, the agency said.

After the Parkview-Glensboro crash, the driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene on foot, KSP said. Lawrenceburg Police took the 12-year-old into custody a short time later, and the juvenile was arrested and charged on Thursday. WKYT did not publish the specific charges, and the juvenile has not been publicly identified.

What Happened to the 12-Year-Old

Trooper Andy Stepp, in comments to WKYT, said the same stolen vehicle had been pursued by KSP troopers multiple times that day and that each pursuit had been terminated because of the safety risk to other drivers and to the public.

Stepp said the safety concerns were heightened by the fact that the driver was operating a vehicle without a license and without training on the rules of the road. He also said the driver of the other vehicle involved in the Parkview-Glensboro collision was harmed because of the juvenile’s decisions behind the wheel.

KSP investigators are finishing the collision reconstruction at the intersection of Parkview Drive and Glensboro Road. Glensboro Road was closed for several hours while crews worked on doing that. The injured female driver’s name hasn’t been released just yet. Additionally, her condition beyond that of minor injuries has not been further described.
