I’ve definitely seen a lot of crazy things, especially when it comes to writing up stories for Guessing Headlights. However, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone drive into an active crime scene and genuinely think they could get away with it.

Officers at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office probably thought the same thing when it happened to them on July 26 at about three in the morning. They were working a traffic fatality on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and North 43rd Street when a blue KIA came driving through.

I’m curious to know if the officers who were working the traffic fatality the driver drove into were the same as the ones who arrested him. After failing to complete a field sobriety test, the cops cuffed him and told him he was going to jail.

He must have been way more drunk than he realized because he really thought he had completed the test.

Driver Tried To Go Around a Fatal Crash Scene Instead of Turning Around

Please let the following video load.

The video above shows the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office police standing in the road. According to the caption, a blue KIA drove up to the scene and, instead of doing literally anything else, decided to drive on the sidewalk to avoid the vehicles on the road.

Immediately after that, the driver, who was revealed to be 29-year-old Leela Pidaleti, drove into the crime scene. Fortunately, officers there were able to box him in and get him out of the car.

When speaking with the officers, Pidaleti said that he hadn’t been drinking that night. However, he immediately goes back on that when he says, “No, we went to the club. We had some drinks.

The DUI Investigation Took a Turn After One Honest Answer

As a result of his response, the officers on the scene made him do a field sobriety test. You can see as he appears to struggle through a few of the commands given to him.

After failing the test, the officers started to put him in handcuffs and explained to him that he would be going to jail for a DUI. After that, he literally says, “I thought I completed it. Can I try it again?

Honestly, if I were that cop, I probably would have let him just to see if he would fail it a second time.

Regardless, it’s good to know that this driver won’t be out on the streets any time soon. Charges for driving under the influence typically result in a suspended license, though this depends on the individual and their criminal history.

Commenters Couldn’t Stop Laughing at the Driver’s Contradictions

Comments definitely thought the video was funny, with many people pointing fingers at the drunk driver. One person wrote, “Have you had any drinks? No. We went to the club and had some drinks. How do cops not bust out laughing at times?”

Another person poked fun at Pidaleti’s question at the end, writing, “Can I try again? No, that’s not how this works.” Similarly, someone else wrote, “‘OH I thought I completed it’ has me dying.”

While the video is undoubtedly funny, it also serves as a reminder to never drive while intoxicated, and to find a different route home if needed.
