13-Year-Old’s Blunt Excuse After Kansas City Stolen Car Chase Leaves Deputies Stunned

Car theft cases often come with excuses, denials, or silence. This one came with a quote that is likely to be remembered for a long time.

Authorities in Missouri say a 13-year-old boy made a startling comment after deputies arrested him in connection with a stolen vehicle pursuit near Kansas City. According to investigators, the teen suggested that vehicle owners were to blame if they left their cars unlocked with keys inside.

The incident unfolded early Monday morning when deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reportedly spotted two stolen vehicles traveling together along Highway 210. What followed was a pair of pursuits, multiple arrests, and one statement that quickly grabbed attention.

While the teen’s comment may sound flippant, the situation behind it was anything but lighthearted. Law enforcement says stolen vehicle cases can create dangerous conditions for drivers, deputies, and the public in a matter of seconds.

Deputies Spot Two Stolen Cars Traveling Together

Investigators say deputies encountered the two stolen vehicles around 1 a.m. Monday. When officers attempted a traffic stop, both drivers allegedly fled instead of pulling over.

The first vehicle reportedly entered the Avondale area, struck a curb, and damaged a tire. Even with the damage, the driver continued before eventually ending up in a field near North Bellefontaine Avenue and North Walnut Street.

Two people then ran from the vehicle, according to deputies.

Authorities said one suspect gave up quickly, but the second attempted to keep running. That effort did not last long.

The sheriff’s office said K9 Argos tracked down the fleeing suspect, who was later treated at a hospital for minor bite injuries before being booked into the Clay County Detention Center.

The two suspects from the first vehicle were identified as 21-year-old Kayden Nolen and 21-year-old Kevante White. Officials say both face charges of resisting arrest and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Second Chase Ends With 13-Year-Old Driver

While deputies were dealing with the first pursuit, another deputy located the second stolen vehicle near Antioch Road and Russell Road.

Authorities say that driver also refused to stop and led deputies back toward Avondale and onto Highway 210. During the chase, investigators say the suspect drove over multiple medians before the vehicle became disabled near Randolph Road.

When deputies ordered the driver out, they discovered the suspect was a 13-year-old boy.

He was turned over to the Clay County Juvenile Office, where he remains in custody.

Teen’s Comment Raises Bigger Questions

According to investigators, the boy told deputies that if people did not want their vehicles stolen, they should not leave them unlocked with keys inside.

The remark has sparked the kind of reaction you would expect. While many drivers understand the importance of locking vehicles and removing valuables, responsibility for theft still falls on the person taking property that does not belong to them.

It is also a reminder that juvenile involvement in auto theft cases remains a concern for many communities nationwide.

What Drivers Can Learn From This Incident

Even though no owner is responsible for someone else’s criminal choices, basic precautions can reduce risk.

Drivers should lock doors, remove keys or fobs, avoid leaving vehicles running unattended, and park in well-lit areas whenever possible. Anti-theft devices and tracking systems can also help.

This case also highlights another reality: stolen car incidents can escalate quickly into dangerous pursuits. What starts as an unlocked door can end with damaged vehicles, police chases, injuries, and arrests.
