When it comes to knowing who to trust in the automotive world, mechanics are a good start. These people usually know a lot about cars due to how many they work on. One UK mechanic has recently revealed the car that he trusts the most.
The report came from The Telegraph, and it was shared by Yorkshire Live not long after. Mechanic Robert Hannah revealed that Toyota was one of the brands that he trusted the most, as their cars very rarely came into his workshop for repairs.
In fact, he was full of praise for the Toyota Yaris Hybrid in particular, a car that has scored quite well in many reliability studies. In the United States, Toyota is a very well-regarded manufacturer, and reliability is one of the qualities they are most renowned for in their vehicles.
In his interview with The Telegraph, Hannah explained why the Yaris Hybrid was so highly regarded, in his opinion. His views tie in with those of Auto Express, which recently voted another Toyota as the most reliable car in the UK in 2026. It seems that no matter where you are, Toyota reliability is almost guaranteed.
Why Is the Toyota Yaris Hybrid So Highly Regarded?

Hannah, a seasoned mechanic, was full of appreciation for the little Japanese car. “I never see them coming through the garage requiring engine repairs,” he told The Telegraph. “They’re cheap to run and fairly cheap to purchase,” he added. To back up his point, a standard Yaris Hybrid will cost you £23,995 at the time of writing, which is roughly $32,455 at current exchange rates.
That is a good deal for a car with a strong reliability record, plenty of space despite its small size, and excellent handling characteristics. The bonus of hybrid power makes it an even more compelling option. Excellent handling is something the Yaris has become famous for over the years, right back to the very first edition from 1999 with the basic 1.0-liter engine.
A review from The Mirror pitted the Yaris Hybrid against a Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid. While the Vauxhall was deemed more comfortable, the Toyota won out as a much more enjoyable car to be behind the wheel of. “Both cars are good, solid seven out of ten, but the Toyota appeals to me just that little bit more for its usability, handling, the sound of its engine, and how it felt like a better road trip car too,” said the reviewer.
Toyota Is Renowned for Its Reliability

Backing up the mechanic’s views on the Yaris Hybrid was the fact that the Toyota Aygo X came top in a UK survey. It claimed the top spot in the Driver Power Survey for Auto Express, making it the most reliable car in the UK for 2026.
Toyota also scores very highly when it comes to reliability in the USA. The Japanese manufacturer regularly tops reliability surveys such as those from Consumer Reports and J.D. Power. If you want a car that will last as long as possible, a Toyota really is the way to go. Even some of those you can get on the second-hand market are likely to last you a very long time.
