Some rather terrifying dashcam footage has emerged showing that some people think red lights are optional, with a near miss taking place at a set of traffic lights before a bigger incident at the red lights. Making it even scarier is that this near miss took place at night, making it a particularly shocking piece of footage.

The footage has appeared on the r/dashcams subreddit, with the video having 5,400 upvotes at the time of writing, as well as 415 comments. In the footage, the car we are riding on board with is coming through an intersection that appears to be clear for the dashcam vehicle.

As it passes a stationary car, suddenly a Kia SUV emerges from the right-hand side of the intersection, and it doesn’t appear to be paying any attention to the road ahead or what is going on around it. That is what leads to the frightening near miss.

As with many of these videos, the comments section was full of entertainment. Plenty of Reddit users speculated as to why the Kia SUV drove the way it did and nearly caused a collision, with some even wondering if the Kia had been stolen, hence the aggressive driving. But as the video unfolds, the Kia’s disregard for traffic lights soon catches up with them.

The Kia Seemingly Doesn’t Obey the Traffic Lights

The Kia that shoots across the front of the dashcam car appears within the first few seconds of the video. Our car is moving along as normal when it just fires out of the right-hand side road, joining the intersection, causing the dashcam car to slam on its brakes. The horn can be heard sounding on the dashcam car, followed by an understandable “What the [expletive].”

The dashcam car then flashes its lights at the Kia, which doesn’t appear to care about what has happened. Our car chases it down the road and catches up to it at the next set of traffic lights. Clearly, the dashcam car driver was incredibly angry, as he stopped and tried to get up to the car to confront the driver. Yet this driver wasn’t ready for a confrontation.

With the lights above him still red, the driver of the Kia SUV fires forward and straight into the middle of an intersection. You can probably guess what happens next. Having fired himself into oncoming traffic, the Kia driver is hit by a white sedan, which pushes it right over, and the Kia ends up on its roof. To say that it was a dramatic incident is a huge understatement.

Reddit Users Comment on the Kia’s Driving Antics

The incident, which appeared to have taken place in Australia, was certainly one that Reddit users loved to sink their teeth into. “If this isn’t a stolen car, I’d be truly shocked,” said the top comment on the video. “Other possibilities: Drunk. Teenagers. Drunk and teenagers,” said a user in response to that comment. “Hey now, I’ve seen old people drive just as recklessly. They’re just usually driving into houses or storefronts,” added another.

Scrolling down the comments section, they didn’t let up. “No lights as well,” said another, stating that the Kia didn’t have its headlights on. “Lean more drunk than stolen; feel like if it was stolen, they’d have been going faster and not stopped at that other light,” added another.

Whatever the case may be with this car, it was being driven in a very poor manner. Karma, however, did catch up to them pretty quickly.
