That’s exactly what happened in Florida when a rideshare driver decided the best place to settle a dispute with an unruly passenger was the local police headquarters.
According to Port St. Lucie police, the driver pulled into the department’s parking lot after a passenger refused to get out of the vehicle while inhaling nitrous oxide. Honestly, if you’re already parked outside a police station, you’ve made it incredibly easy for officers to figure out where to start.
Police identified the passenger as 37-year-old Pamela Ann Molina, who was arrested after officers said she refused commands and resisted being taken into custody. The department couldn’t help but joke that the incident unfolded right outside the offices of the team that runs its social media, but beneath the humor is a reminder that substance abuse can have serious consequences, and sometimes the safest move is simply letting law enforcement handle the situation.
Florida Man Straps on Whizzinator To Cheat Urine Drug Test Then Throws It in Patrol Car and Claims It Wasn’t His. Sheriff Calls Him a “Pee-Brain Dirtbag”
Some people try to beat a drug test with creative methods. According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, one Florida man tried doing it with a fake urine device, only to leave the whole setup behind on the floor of a patrol car.
Deputies say 52-year-old James Shepard was arrested after driving to a court-ordered drug class on a suspended license while on felony probation. Things took an even stranger turn during the ride to jail when, after deputies moved his handcuffs to the front because he complained of a shoulder injury, he discarded what authorities identified as a Whizzinator, a fake bladder containing what they believe was synthetic urine.
Needless to say, that’s not exactly the kind of evidence you want to leave behind in a police vehicle. Shepard now faces several additional charges, including attempting to defraud a drug test and tampering with evidence, turning what was already a bad day into one that somehow became significantly worse.
Florida Man Denies Shooting Fireworks at Traffic Until Deputy Reveals a Helicopter Has Been Following Him
Setting off fireworks from a moving vehicle on the interstate is already a terrible idea. Trying to deny it after a police helicopter has been recording your every move for the last several miles is somehow an even worse one.
According to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle after an Air Unit watched someone launch fireworks out of the passenger-side window while traveling on Interstate 95. My favorite part of the whole interaction is the moment the occupants insisted it wasn’t their car, only for the deputy to point at the flashing light overhead and explain that a helicopter had been following them for about 10 miles.
The passenger was ultimately arrested on a charge of Shooting a Deadly Missile from a Moving Vehicle, a charge that sounds more dramatic than it is but can apply to dangerous objects like fireworks under Florida law. It’s also a good reminder that just because you don’t see a patrol car doesn’t mean nobody is watching, and arguing with video evidence rarely ends the way people hope it will.
Florida Man Fights Police Officers Attempting To Get Him Out of Alligator-Infested Water
There are plenty of places I’d choose to run if I were panicking. A Florida canal known for snakes and alligators would rank somewhere near the very bottom of that list.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies tried to check on a 47-year-old man during a welfare call when he ran into a nearby canal and started swimming away. The plan quickly fell apart when he began struggling in the water, forcing deputies to jump in after him, where they say he fought the very people trying to keep him from drowning. Honestly, if the choice is talking to deputies or swimming with Florida wildlife, I’m probably picking the conversation every time.
As bizarre as that rescue already sounds, it wasn’t even the only unusual arrest deputies made over the Fourth of July weekend. The comments reflected that disbelief, with some praising deputies for willingly entering the canal despite the wildlife, while others joked they would have thrown the man a life raft from shore instead, though just about everyone agreed it was one of the stranger police stories to come out of the holiday weekend.
Florida Man Orders Uber From the Woods While Deputies Circle Overhead
If you’re trying to escape from police, calling an Uber to your hiding spot is probably not the master plan you think it is. According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, that’s exactly what one Florida man did after fleeing a crash and running into the woods.
Deputies say Emmanuel Ayala rear-ended another vehicle, fled the scene, abandoned his car in a nearby neighborhood, and took off on foot before deputies established a perimeter with a drone and K-9. Instead of lying low, he opened the Uber app and requested a pickup near his hiding spot, which worked right up until the driver noticed the heavy police presence and called deputies instead. I have to give the Uber driver credit; that’s some excellent situational awareness.
The story gets much more serious when you learn Ayala’s two young children were reportedly with him throughout the pursuit and while he was hiding in the woods. They were safely reunited with their mother after his arrest, but the incident resulted in multiple charges, including child endangerment, and serves as a reminder that a split-second decision to flee can quickly snowball into something far more serious than the situation you were trying to escape in the first place.
