Most rideshare horror stories involve bad music or someone eating fries in the backseat. For one Linthicum driver on Wednesday night, the situation was a little more alarming. According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, 31-year-old Montarius Wise allegedly decided that the backseat of a stranger’s car was the perfect spot to conduct business.
Drug business. With a loaded gun.
Around 9:10 p.m. on April 1, the rideshare driver pulled over near the 700 block of Elkridge Landing Road, walked into a nearby business, and did what any reasonable person would do: called 911. Because when your passenger is allegedly armed and running a mobile pharmaceutical operation from your back seat, you do not ask for a five-star review.
You call the cops.
Officers Find a Loaded Gun and a Lot of Alleged Product
When police arrived, Wise was still sitting in the backseat, apparently in no rush. He cooperated with officers and stepped out of the vehicle without incident, which might be the least chaotic part of this entire story.
From there, things got interesting fast. Officers reportedly recovered a loaded handgun from his waistband, according to Fox 45 News, along with suspected heroin and fentanyl, cocaine, oxycodone pills, and marijuana. That is not a recreational stash. That is a menu.
Wise was arrested and charged accordingly.
To the rideshare driver who trusted their gut and made that call: you made the right move. Your car is not a dispensary, and you are not obligated to complete the trip under those conditions. Absolutely no one is tipping their way out of that situation.
One April Fools’ Day joke that was not a joke at all.
