While no longer with us, Plymouth was once one of the most famous names in the American automotive industry. It was sadly wound up in 2001, but along the way, it produced some amazing cars, including the Hemi GTX.

The Plymouth GTX was often called the ‘gentleman’s muscle car’ as it wasn’t quite as lairy in nature as those from rivals Ford and Chevrolet. But it was still an impressive machine, and it’s become a very popular classic car amongst muscle car enthusiasts.

Some examples of the Plymouth GTX can be incredibly rare. YouTuber Gary the Gear recently went to a car show, where he was able to find one of these rare examples, which was a J-Code 1968 Plymouth GTX, one of just 11 examples of its type ever made, making it one of the rarest of the breed.

In fact, this particular GTX is so rare that it could fetch well over $200,000 if it ever went under the hammer. It is also a perfect reminder that Plymouth could produce a truly brilliant car, even if the company’s end came with a whimper.

What Makes This Plymouth Gtx So Rare?

In total, Plymouth built 19,000 examples of the GTX for the 1968 model year. However, this one is particularly special. Under the hood is a 426ci Hemi V8 engine, narrowing production numbers down to 446. As it has a four-speed manual transmission, that number comes down further to 216 examples.

But the rarity of this beast doesn’t stop there either. This particular Plymouth GTX was sold new to Alberta, Canada, making it even more special. In fact, only 15 Hemi GTXs were shipped to Canada, according to records. Out of those 15, only 11 of them were hardtops, including this one. Then there is the fact that this example has a four-speed manual transmission.

While it’s not clear how many hardtops had the manual, this example is likely a single-digit GTX. Potentially, it is even a one-of-one, thanks to the silver-over-blue color combination that it is finished in. The owner of the car stated in the YouTube video that it spent most of its early years at the drag strip, with a new rear end and other modifications enabling it to blast down the 1/4 mile in just 10 seconds. The second owner had the car for a remarkable 47 years.

How Much Would This Plymouth Gtx Be Worth?

The big question is how much this car would be worth. There is the potential for this GTX to be worth up to $100,000 and perhaps even as much as $200,000 due to its rarity as well as the color combination. Plus, from watching the video, the GTX appears to be in incredibly good condition and very well looked after.

A look at Classic.com gives us an idea of what the Plymouth GTX market is doing. The site lists the top sale at a whopping $539,000 for a 1971 Hemi GTX that was sold at Mecum Auctions in May 2026. That highlights how valuable some examples of the GTX can be, and just how much some people are willing to pay for this iconic American muscle car.
