It might seem incredible, but the Toyota Corolla turns 60 years old in 2027. The Corolla has become one of the best-selling cars in the United States, and no one can probably imagine life without the car. Toyota clearly can’t, as it is set to celebrate this milestone.

For the United States alone, the Japanese manufacturer is giving us a special 60th Anniversary Special Edition, featuring a few extras to ensure it stands out from the 2027 Corolla. Naturally, being a special edition, there will only be a handful of these special cars produced.

At the time of writing, Toyota is capping the production run at just 2,500 units. These will use the SE Hybrid model as their basis, meaning the anniversary Corolla will be a hybrid car. So not only will you get a special Corolla, but you will also get excellent fuel economy!

There are plenty of extra details across the Toyota that help to keep it separate from the other models. The special edition is set to launch in early 2027, with the rest of the 2027 Corolla lineup making its debut in the fall of 2026.

What Differentiates the Corolla Anniversary Model From the Standard Car?

Toyota is limiting production of the 2027 Corolla 60th Anniversary Special Edition to just 2,500 units. The special model has exclusive 18-inch machined black alloy wheels with custom exterior badging reminding us of the car’s big birthday. Buyers can choose between Ice Cap, which is a bright white, and Supersonic Red, which is a much bolder look for the car.

Step inside the Toyota and you will see special black and red sport seats, but that isn’t all. The special edition also has 60th Anniversary door sill plates and floor mats, and as standard it comes with a 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen. While the changes are subtle, they do help to differentiate this car from the rest of the 2027 Corolla range.

As it is based on the SE Hybrid, under the hood the car gets a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, and with the hybrid assistance, the Corolla produces 138hp. This should mean excellent fuel economy, with the Hybrid XLE rated at 50mpg combined for both city and highway, according to Toyota. Fuel economy might not sound like the most exciting thing in the world, but it means you can happily use the special edition of the Corolla with no real downsides to worry about.

The year 2027 is a very special occasion for the Toyota Corolla. The company first launched the nameplate in 1967, and it quickly became one of the most popular cars on the automotive market. As with many of Toyota’s products, its reliability record is one of its biggest selling points. Yet it remains incredibly affordable.

The 2027 Corolla will retail at just $23,325 for the base model. Considering how expensive some cars have become, that is phenomenally good news for consumers. The Corolla is a car that just blends into its surroundings, doing its good work without kicking up too much of a fuss. Yet it is arguably one of the most important automobiles ever made.
