Few cars embody raw American performance quite like the Shelby Cobra. With its barely-there bodywork and a monstrous Ford big-block V8 under the hood, the Cobra 427 S/C became a legend in the 1960s and remains one of the most iconic sports cars ever built.
And now, just in time for its 60th anniversary, LEGO has unveiled a brick-built tribute worthy of the legend.
Revealed yesterday, the new LEGO Icons Shelby Cobra 427 S/C set (10357) brings Carroll Shelby’s masterpiece to life at 1:10 scale, comprising 1,241 intricately designed pieces. The set captures the Cobra’s signature look—from its gaping front grille and bold racing stripes to its low, wide stance and exposed side pipes.
Born From a Horsepower War
In the mid-1960s, Carroll Shelby set out to dominate the world’s racetracks. Ferrari, his fiercest rival at the time, had just increased the output of its GTOs, and General Motors was developing its own big-block engine.
Shelby’s answer? Ford Motor Company’s massive 427 cubic-inch FE V8, shoehorned into the featherweight Cobra chassis. The result was terrifying—in the best possible way. The 427 S/C, or “semi-competition,” was essentially a track car tamed just enough for the street.
That big-block heart is recreated in LEGO form under the hood, surrounded by working steering, opening doors, a functional trunk, and plenty of clever nods to the original car’s character.
Details That Pay Tribute to the Legend
One of our favorite touches? The Carroll Shelby signature dashboard sticker is an iconic detail for anyone who’s ever dreamed of driving a Cobra. Other additions include a racing trophy, a fire extinguisher, and a toolbox tucked into the trunk.
And in a nod to Shelby’s famous “$100 bill game,” where he dared passengers to hold onto one under full throttle, LEGO even tucked in a miniature $100 bill piece. If you know, you know.
