A viral video out of Orange County has people talking for two very different reasons.
The first is a police pursuit involving what witnesses described as a teenager riding an e-bike through Garden Grove and Santa Ana. The second, and far more memorable reason, is the unexpected appearance of a coyote that seemed determined to join the chase.
The video, originally shared by Garden Grove resident Danny Trieu, shows multiple police units following the rider through a neighborhood at night. As the pursuit unfolds, a coyote suddenly appears and starts running in the same direction as the police vehicles.
The clip quickly drew comparisons to a real-life Road Runner cartoon, with viewers joking that the coyote was trying out for a K-9 unit or simply wanted to see how the chase ended.
Even the Coyote Wanted To Know What Happened

As funny as the coyote may be, several pieces of information suggest the pursuit itself was real.
Additional details surfaced on CodeThreeNews, an X account operated by a retired law enforcement officer who regularly covers police activity across Southern California. The account stated that Anaheim Police were involved in a pursuit that crossed multiple Orange County cities before ending in the 2300 block of West Edna Drive in Santa Ana, where the rider was reportedly taken into custody without incident.
Separately, flight tracking data shows Anaheim Police helicopter N326PD operating over the Garden Grove and Santa Ana area around the same time. The helicopter spent an extended period circling near the Santa Ana River corridor, River View Golf Course, and Santa Ana College, behavior consistent with tracking activity on the ground.
While we were unable to locate an official Anaheim Police news release about the incident, the helicopter flight path, social media videos, and eyewitness accounts all point to a genuine law enforcement operation taking place that night.
Commenters Immediately Turned It Into a Road Runner Cartoon
While the pursuit itself drew attention, the comments quickly turned to the coyote.
Many viewers compared the scene to the classic Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote cartoons. “The coyote is also chasing him,” one commenter wrote, while another joked, “Is that their new K-9 unit?” Others suggested the coyote was simply trying to see how the pursuit would end.
Several people admitted they initially thought the mention of a coyote in the caption was a joke until they spotted the animal sprinting through the frame. “I totally thought this was a joke until you panned over to the coyote,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “The coyote at the end had me rolling.”
Others imagined the animal was trying to join the police department. “Give that coyote a badge,” one viewer joked, while another called it Garden Grove’s “newest K-9 unit.”
The animal’s unexpected appearance became the highlight of the video, with dozens of commenters joking about police recruiting coyotes as pursuit dogs and comparing the chase to a live-action Looney Tunes episode.
The Coyote Stole the Show
Police pursuits are nothing new on social media, especially in Southern California. What made this one go viral was not the rider, the patrol cars, or even the helicopter circling overhead.
It was the split-second appearance of a coyote that seemed to decide it wanted to be part of the action.
Whether the animal was actually interested in the chase or simply happened to be running through the area at the same time, it created one of those perfectly timed moments that could never be scripted.
