The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office shared an important message on Facebook after deputies stopped a blue Corvette driver traveling at 120 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Excessive speeding not only puts the driver at risk but also endangers other motorists, pedestrians, and wildlife on or near the road.
Using the traffic stop as an example, the sheriff’s office reminded drivers that its goal is to ensure everyone gets home safely.
The department urged motorists to make responsible decisions behind the wheel and help keep the roads safe for everyone.
Corvette Driver Going 120 MPH Becomes Sheriff’s Example
Sheriff Michael Peterson of the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office posted an image of a Corvette driver who had clocked 120 mph, nearly double the speed limit of 65 mph. Deputies conducted the traffic stop on Sunday at 7:22 PM on USH 151 near County Highway YZ in the Town of Dodgeville.
The department emphasized that at those speeds, drivers have very little time to react if another vehicle changes lanes or if an animal crosses the road. Such situations could lead to catastrophic crashes with “life-changing consequences” for everyone involved.
The sheriff’s office added that traffic enforcement is about preventing such incidents, especially in areas where accidents are common. It wrote:
“Traffic enforcement isn’t about writing tickets. It’s about preventing the crash that never happens because someone chose to slow down. This section of highway from CTH YZ to CTH Z has had 102 crashes in the last 10 years. With multiple having serious injuries or fatal.”
The department concluded the post by reminding motorists to slow down, saying:
“As your Sheriff’s Office, our goal is simple: everyone gets home safely.
“Please help us by slowing down, staying alert, and making safe decisions behind the wheel. We appreciate the overwhelming majority of drivers who do exactly that every day.
“Together, we can continue making Iowa County’s roads safer for everyone.”

The Facebook post does not mention what punishment the driver received or whether the Corvette was impounded.
