Ford Motor Company has been drowning in recalls lately.
And the numbers are hard to ignore.
Since January 2025, Ford has reportedly issued more than 180 recalls, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
That’s an eye-watering number for any automaker.
Ford Already Has 33 Recalls In 2026

Things haven’t exactly slowed down this year.
Ford has already issued 33 recalls in 2026, affecting roughly 9.6 million vehicles.
That follows a brutal 2025, when the automaker issued around 150 recalls impacting roughly 12.9 million vehicles.
Over a 12-month period ending in March, Ford reportedly recalled nearly 19.6 million vehicles.
That was more than every other automaker combined.
Ford Says Many Problems Are Software Related

Not every recall involves major mechanical failures.
According to Ford spokesperson Mike Levine, roughly 80 percent of Ford’s 2026 recalls involve software fixes.
Many of those problems can reportedly be solved through over-the-air updates or dealership software updates.
That makes repairs faster and cheaper than replacing major components like engines or transmissions.
Warranty Costs Are Actually Falling

Despite the massive recall numbers, Ford says it reduced warranty costs by $500 million in 2025 compared to 2024.
That’s one of the company’s biggest talking points right now.
Ford says it has expanded testing procedures and increased long-term durability testing on critical systems like engines, steering, and brakes.
The company has also reportedly expanded its safety and engineering teams.
Ford Admits This Won’t Be Fixed Overnight

Ford says most of its recall headaches come from vehicles designed between 2015 and 2022.
Executives claim newer vehicles are already showing fewer warranty issues.
Still, the company admitted this problem likely won’t disappear overnight.
Ford says recall numbers may remain elevated for another year, or longer, before things truly improve.
