Florida Man Arrested After Giving Drivers More Than Ocean Views in the Keys, Deputies Say

The Overseas Highway has earned a reputation as one of the most scenic drives in America. On a recent Wednesday morning, motorists say they got an unexpected view that definitely wasn’t listed in any Florida Keys travel guide.

Motorists traveling along U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 106 in the Florida Keys got more than ocean views when they reportedly spotted a shirtless man standing roadside and pulling down his pants. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 9:28 a.m. on June 17 after receiving reports that the man was exposing himself to passing motorists.

Deputies identified the man as 49-year-old Jeremiah Michael Armsey. Booking records list his address as Key West, though the Sheriff’s Office release identified him as being from Mount Dora. He was arrested at 9:41 a.m. at 107900 Overseas Highway in Key Largo.

Armsey was charged with disturbing the peace and fraud-impersonation after deputies say he provided a false name. He was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier for medical clearance before being transported to jail.

Deputies Say the Incident Happened Along a Busy Stretch of U.S. 1

Mile Marker 106 places the incident in the Key Largo area, one of the busier stretches of the Overseas Highway. The road is famous for its water views, bridges, tourist traffic, and very limited options for avoiding whatever lies ahead.

That matters here because the Overseas Highway is not a road where drivers can simply take an alternate route and move on. U.S. 1 is the primary road in and out of the Florida Keys, so anything unusual along the roadside tends to draw attention quickly.

In this case, the unusual roadside attraction was not a stalled vehicle, a loose ladder, or a confused tourist. Deputies say it was a shirtless man exposing himself to traffic.

Why Armsey Was Taken to the Hospital Is Not Clear

The Sheriff’s Office did not explain what led to the incident or why Armsey was allegedly exposing himself to motorists shortly before 9:30 a.m.

Authorities said he was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier and medically cleared before being transported to jail. No additional details were released about whether drugs, alcohol, a medical issue, or a mental health crisis played any role.

That missing context is likely where many readers’ questions will land. The allegations are strange on their own, but the medical clearance details suggest the deputies wanted him checked out before booking.

The False Name Charge Adds Another Layer

Armsey was charged with one misdemeanor count of disturbing the peace and one misdemeanor count of fraud-impersonation. Booking records list the fraud-impersonation charge under Florida Statute 901.36(1), which covers providing false identifying information to law enforcement.

That part of the case is worth noting because a bizarre roadside call can become more complicated once deputies say a suspect gives them a false name. What might have been a relatively simple disturbance call can quickly turn into a booking record, an additional charge, and a court date.

Court records show Armsey is scheduled for arraignment on July 1, 2026, at 8:45 a.m.

Not Exactly the Morning Drive Most People Expect

The Overseas Highway has seen plenty in its long history, from storms and traffic backups to tourists stopping for photos in places they probably shouldn’t. Still, a shirtless man allegedly exposing himself to passing traffic near Key Largo is not the kind of landmark most drivers expect to encounter.

Armsey now faces two misdemeanor charges. Deputies have not released additional information about what prompted the incident, how long he was roadside before they arrived, or whether any motorists stopped beyond calling it in.
