Motorcyclist Pops Wheelie on I-84, Then Gravity Takes Over

Two motorcyclists had their front wheels off the pavement while riding through traffic on Interstate 84 in Idaho. One of them would soon have considerably more than a front tire touching the road.

Footage released by Idaho State Police shows the pair performing wheelies as vehicles travel around them on the freeway. One rider eventually loses control, sending the motorcycle down and its rider sliding across the pavement.

It is the sort of highway crash that leaves plenty of room for a much uglier outcome. Instead, medical personnel evaluated the rider at the scene and cleared them, WFLA reported.

The crash gave Idaho State Police a ready-made example for its warning about high-risk riding. The agency urged both motorcyclists and drivers to stay alert as Idaho approaches the end of its riding season, saying reckless driving puts everyone using the road at risk.

The video begins with both motorcycles still upright and moving with traffic. The stunt becomes the story when one rider comes down hard and separates from the motorcycle.

The rider slides along the roadway before coming to a stop. No other vehicle was reported as being involved in the crash.

Idaho State Police did not announce an arrest, citation, or motorcycle impoundment in the reporting surrounding the video. That makes the rider’s medical outcome the clearest consequence currently attached to the footage: an interstate wheelie ended on the pavement, but not at the hospital.

Road Review

The relatively fortunate ending did not buy the rider much sympathy from people watching the footage online.

One YouTube viewer reduced the lesson to five words: “Pain is a great teacher.”

Another was more concerned about the pavement.

“For those of you concerned, no concrete roadway was injured in the accident,” the commenter wrote.
