The Chevrolet Camaro is one of the most famous automobiles ever produced. It returned to our roads in 2010 with the fifth generation, while the sixth generation made its debut in 2015. Come the end of 2024, Production had ceased, and the Camaro was no more as Chevrolet focused on EVs and hybrids.
When that production run concluded, many thought that was the end of the road for the iconic pony car. Chevrolet had hinted that the Camaro’s story was not done yet. However, it was rumored that if it was to make a return, the Camaro name would instead be used on another vehicle, such as an SUV.
But it looks like those fears were premature. In fact, it seems like a new, seventh-generation Camaro is in the works, as it realizes just how important it is to its range as a muscle car. You only have to look at the way Ford has kept the Mustang going to realize this.
A report from GM Authority has stated that, as well as the standard Camaro, a new, high-performance model will be unleashed alongside the rest of the range. It is expected to have big horsepower, make lots of noise, and it may even come with supercharging.
What We Know About the New Chevrolet Camaro

At the moment, it is expected that the new, upcoming seventh-generation Camaro will ride on an updated version of General Motors’ rear-wheel-drive Alpha 2 platform. Production is expected to begin in late 2027, and it will be offered as a 2028 model year muscle car. The car will be produced at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan.
As in the previous generation, a manual transmission is expected to be featured. This makes sense, as the Chevrolet Corvette C8 comes exclusively with an automatic transmission. So a manual performance car is certainly going to be a welcome addition to the GM lineup. Beyond that, it is also expected that the new car will have a base model with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood.
Beyond that, very little information has filtered out from Chevrolet. We haven’t had any spy shots yet either as to what the new car will look like. However, GM Authority has reported on a new ‘spicy’ version, taking power to another level, with some of their sources saying customers will be very happy with what the Bow Tie ultimately has to offer.
The New Super Spicy Chevrolet Camaro

Again, we don’t know the specifics on the spicy new version. But it will be heavily tuned to provide a good power increase over the standard models. One possibility is that the new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 engine could power the new Camaro. This is Chevrolet’s latest pushrod small-block Gen 6 engine, and you can find it in the 2027 Corvette Stingray as well as the C8 Grand Sport and Grand Sport X.
This engine was a replacement for the 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine that powered the Stingray before the 2027 model year. Not only would it look the part in a new Camaro, but it would also sound the part and provide unreal amounts of power. Now, just imagine that with a new supercharger bolted to it, potentially pushing the power up to 700hp and beyond.
Will a New Chevy Camaro Work?

The answer to the question above is undoubtedly yes. Ford hasn’t given up on the Mustang, and Dodge is already beginning to bring back its own muscle cars as well as offer all-electric versions. Chevrolet will have seen that EVs aren’t proving as popular as expected, and that there is still demand for the muscle car. We wait with eager anticipation as to how the new seventh-generation Chevrolet Camaro will turn out.
