We’ve probably all heard stories of cars being written off unusually and bizarrely, but this particular story seems to be on another level. A man from Charlotte, North Carolina, posted a video on TikTok showing his $50,000 Honda Accord seemingly being written off by a lane divider.
Chained2.0t (@chained2.0t) posted the video to his account, and remarkably, it has gained over 11 million views since it was posted. The video includes dashcam footage of the accident, as well as footage of the driver himself as his car runs over the divider.
In the video, Chained2.0t appears to make a last-second lane change during a Sunday drive. His car clipped the lane dividers, the plastic posts that separate an express lane from regular traffic. These appear to have totaled the Honda, with his video caption reading “POV – you totaled your $50k Honda Accord on a casual Sunday.”
It must be stressed that the quoted $50,000 is not the price for the car itself, as a modern Accord costs around $28,000 for the base model, topping out at $39,495 for the Touring Hybrid. This is a modified Accord, which perhaps makes the accident even more galling.

In the footage, we see Chained2.0t driving on the highway, with the video split into two halves. The bottom half of the video shows the dashcam footage, while the top half shows rear-facing cabin footage of the driver and his reaction to the accident. In the video, we see him driving behind a lorry, and then at the last second he realized he had to change lanes.
As he did so, the car ran over the lane dividers, which had been obscured by the lorry that was driving in front of him. The Accord smacked into the dividers, and initially it looked like he had got away with it. However, the video continues, and then Chained2.0t spotted a smoke cloud coming out of the back of the Honda, and he realized there was a problem.
That was when he pulled over to investigate what was wrong with his Honda Accord. The video then cuts to him on his driveway after getting home, talking about what happened, and he admitted that he was clearly at fault for the incident. “I know it was my fault. Y’all don’t have to fry me up in the comments 10,000 times,” he said. “In the beginning, I was in the correct lane, and then I switched lanes, and then I was in the wrong lane, and I was looking at the GPS. I noticed last second. I went to switch back. I couldn’t see around the Amazon van, and as soon as I went around it, the cones were there. I smacked them.”
Some People Didn’t Believe the Car Cost $50,000
Incredibly, some people who watched the video didn’t seem concerned about the driver or his car. They focused on the fact that they didn’t believe the Accord was worth $50,000. In fairness, it is a bold claim, because a base 2026 Accord costs $28,395 while the top-of-the-range Touring Hybrid costs $39,495. However, Chained2.0t is a modifier, and this car had a lot of modifications added to it, hence the huge increase in its value. New parts and financing costs bumped up how much it was worth.
The biggest problem in the accident was that the TikTok creator had lowered the car. This meant that the lane dividers could hit other components of the car, and it’s possible they smashed into the cooling system of the Honda, ripping open a radiator or an oil pan. Driving on after that happened would cause damage, but in defense of the driver, you can’t just stop in an instant, and he likely didn’t realize what damage had been done.
Why this showed you should never lose focus when driving
Perhaps the biggest issue that this accident raised is how a driver should never, ever lose focus when out and about. The driver had gone from the wrong lane, to the right one, then back to the wrong one, and seemed fixated on his GPS system. That led to the ultimate distraction, and of course it led to him clipping the divider and seemingly writing off a car that he had spent an awful lot of money on. One viewer of the video said “A good driver will sometimes miss their exit. A bad driver never misses their exit.” What they meant by that is, if you miss the exit, you just need to reroute and add a few minutes on to your journey. But lose focus and make a snap lane change like this, and it could make things a lot worse.
Another thing pointed out by viewers was the maneuver itself. Because, as those who watched the video noted, the maneuver that Chained2.0t actually pulled was illegal. He crossed from a general lane into an express toll lane, with the boundary marked by double solid white lines. According to the California DMV’s driver handbook, drivers should “never change lanes over double solid white lines.” If you wanted to be particularly cruel, you could say he paid for that error with the damage to his car.
