First released in 2022, Gran Turismo 7 is still one of the most popular racing games money can buy right now. Since its release, Polyphony Digital has added a huge number of new cars and tracks to the game to increase the content available.
That level of content is now about to increase even more. A major new update is now on the horizon, and this is the highly anticipated Spec IV update, which is set to arrive before the end of 2026. The update is so big that Gran Turismo is splitting it into two parts.
The update helps to mark the 30th anniversary of the original release of Gran Turismo, with that anniversary coming up in 2027. New cars and circuits are included in the updates, with the first part dropping in October 2026. The next part will arrive in December, just in time for Christmas.
Updates like this are important to keep the game going and the players engaged. With it being four years since the game was released, you would forgive players for perhaps moving on and doing something else with their time. But it is content like this that ensures that will not happen.
What Is Coming in the October Gran Turismo 7 Update?
The update is split into two parts, containing 12 cars in total and two racetracks. In the first part, there will be six new cars alongside the racetrack Sportsland SUGO. This is one of Japan’s most challenging circuits, and it is well known for its dramatic elevation changes. For many, it is the cars that will be the highlight of the updates.
As mentioned, the 12 new cars will come in two waves of six. At the time of writing, just the first six for the October update had been revealed. These are the BMW M5 E60, the Citroën 2CV, the Honda Stepwgn, the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo, and the Xiaomi Vision GT. The Honda MUGEN MOTUL CIVIC Si Race Car is also being added, and it was last seen in GT6.
The second circuit, meanwhile, has been revealed. This is Autumn Ring, one that will be instantly recognizable to longtime fans of the Gran Turismo games. It is a fictional circuit for the Gran Turismo universe, but one that has always been incredibly popular. The game will see the layout expanded while retaining the original layout seen in previous versions of the game.
The Cars Should Appeal to a Wide-Ranging Audience
Each of the cars will appeal to a wide number of people who play the game. There is the Motul-liveried Civic Si, for example, based on the third generation of the Honda Civic. This car was last seen in Gran Turismo 6, and in real life it decimated the competition in the 1987 Japanese Touring Car Championship. That alone is why it has a special place in many people’s hearts.
Another Honda making an appearance is the Stepwgn. The Stepwgn has been in production since 1998, and it’s one of the most recognizable minivans in Japan. These cars are slowly becoming popular imports, as people begin to realize how useful they are, with the space they offer providing a lot of practicality. Gran Turismo should reveal the cars coming in the December update closer to its release.
