Ford’s Latest Recall Goes Far Beyond Just the Mustang Muscle Car

Ford is not having the best time at the moment. The Mustang muscle car has already suffered recalls in recent times, and now the company is having to go through a massive recall of vehicles, with a huge number of those being the Mustang muscle car.

However, this recall goes far beyond the standard Mustang. The Mach-E EV has also been affected, as has the monster Mustang GTD supercar, highlighting the current problems facing the Blue Oval. Beyond that, though, it’s yet another recall in what has been a growing number for Ford this year.

Remarkably, this is pushing the manufacturer to have over 100 recalls this year, and we are only in July. There is still nearly half the year left to run, and it seems like they are showing no signs of slowing down. And it isn’t the first time this has happened.

In 2025, Ford suffered 153 recalls in total, which included over 13 million vehicles. At the time of writing, it’s likely Ford is leading the rest of the industry for 2026 recalls by a hefty margin. Ford will hope that the number of recalls slows down as we approach the end of the year.

What Has Happened With Ford’s Latest Recalls?

The latest recall has affected 67,842 Mustangs from 2024 to 2026. What is most alarming is that it has affected the high-performance Mustang GTD, the supercar version of the famous car. The report suggests that cold temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit or less can cause the wiper motor to lose the Local Interconnect Network communication with the steering column module.

That means the wiper may only work at a higher speed, while the washer system itself will be inoperable. If you are in inclement weather, that’s not what you want to deal with. No matter what version of the Mustang you are driving. It appears the issue stems from a mishap with a supplier, with the circuit board assembly printed with a 32-kilobyte programming setting for the 16-kilobyte chip.

The issue was first discovered at the start of 2026, with Ford identifying a report that a 2026 Mustang could only get its wipers on at the high-speed setting. But it isn’t just the performance Mustangs that are suffering from issues. It turns out that the Mustang Mach-E, the popular electric SUV bearing the pony car’s name, has also suffered.

Mustang Mach-E Recalls Highlight Ford’s Problems

The Mach-E recall stems from a potential rear differential pinion shaft fracture. This would cause it to lose power, or even move while the car is in park. Bending fatigue is reportedly the reason behind the issue, with the issue first discovered by Ford on a 2023 model. At the time of writing, Ford has had 62 warranty claims, and so far, there are set to be over 100 recalls from the Ford family this year.

That highlights the issues the company has had, and that the problems go far beyond just a few thousand Mustangs. At the start of July, we also learned that over 770,000 trucks and SUVs had been recalled, including the F-150 and Bronco as well as the Lincoln Aviator. The Blue Oval will no doubt hope things ease off as the year goes on; otherwise, it could end 2026 as the manufacturer with the most recalls and maybe even beat the 153 from 2025.
