A man in Florida somehow managed to make a chase look sort of cool after leading police on a rather dangerous pursuit through Osceola County, according to WFTV9. The suspect wasn’t driving your typical getaway vehicle; it was an RV, and he was under the influence.
The driver also struck several vehicles, injuring occupants, and eventually crashed into a tree before trying to escape from police on foot. What even led to this was officers from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office spotting the erratically driven RV, unable to maintain a single lane.
The driving was so reckless that it initially led the officers to believe that the driver was maybe having a medical episode. Instead of stopping the RV initially, the officers stayed behind the vehicle and made sure that it wouldn’t be in the way of other motorists.
Eventually, the officers agreed that the driver’s behavior was posing a significant threat to others on the road. However, when the officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, the driver of the RV just kept on going.
What Was Going on With the RV Driver?
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded Friday night when a deputy spotted a white Winnie RV traveling eastbound on Osceola Parkway near Michigan Avenue around 9:14 p.m. Authorities said the RV was being driven erratically and couldn’t stay in its own lane.
The officers who were on the scene deployed a tire deflation device in an effort to bring the pursuit to a safe end. This proved successful, and they were able to puncture the RV’s front driver ’s-side tire, but authorities said the driver continued fleeing despite the damage.
The pursuit continued through the Kissimmee area before the RV ultimately left the roadway and crashed into a tree in the front yard of a home on Berkshire Circle. Even after the crash, the driver was not ready to surrender.
What Officers Found After the RV Chase Ended
When officers finally caught up with him on foot, the driver was identified as 45-year-old Louis Anthony Robles of Kissimmee, Florida. During the investigation, deputies reportedly discovered various drugs in Robles’ possession, resulting in even more criminal charges.
It was also revealed that Robles struck two separate vehicles during the reckless chase, causing damage and injuring some of the people inside. Robles failed to stop after both crashes and continued driving despite the injuries and property damage.
Deputies also uncovered an extensive history involving Robles’ driving privileges. Even better, Robles does not possess a valid driver’s license and has accumulated nine prior suspensions.
Nine Suspensions, a Revoked License, and Now Multiple Charges
According to the officers on the scene, Robles’ driver’s license had actually been revoked since 2021. Court and driving records reportedly show Robles was classified as a habitual traffic offender in both October 2021 and again in November 2022, with each designation carrying a five-year revocation period.
Robles was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail, where he now faces o ton of charges, including driving while license revoked as a habitual traffic offender, fleeing to elude law enforcement with lights and sirens activated, reckless driving, DUI, two counts of leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, two counts of DUI property damage, resisting an officer without violence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.
If convicted, then he could face up to 25 years in prison and varying fines. As of right now, the investigation is still ongoing, and as with all criminal cases, the suspect is considered innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
