During a routine traffic stop, a Florida man decided to flee rather than be subjected to police questioning. With an adult passenger in his car and two kids, ages 1 and 4, in the back seats, he made his escape, with the police in hot pursuit.

24-year-old Jason Kenon had multiple active warrants out for his arrest. He knew that as soon as his name was run through the police systems, it would be game over. So, rather than risk arrest, he put the lives of himself, his adult passenger, and more shockingly, the kids on the line.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Kenon was seen weaving through traffic. Police kept pace with him using a helicopter above and multiple cars on the ground.

However, it wasn’t long before he made a mistake under pressure. Misjudging a maneuver, he smashed into the back of a black SUV. The helicopter above captured the whole scene, as Kenon recovered and continued to drive, attempting to outrun the police.

Quick Pitt Stop

Already, Kenon had put the kids in considerable danger. However, after the car accident, he decided that it was becoming too much of a risk and pulled over.

Here, the adult passenger climbed out of the car along with the 1-year-old child. Helicopter footage shows the two of them running from the vehicle across a parking lot. It appeared that the 4-year-old had also tried to climb from the car, but hadn’t managed to escape before Kenon sped off once again.

Barefoot Escape

Eventually, Kenon pulled over beside a building and jumped from the car along with the 4-year-old. He started running with the child trailing behind him.

For some reason, he kicked off his shoes and sped up, leaving the child alone. He made his way onto a road and attempted to scale a fence on the other side. This led Kenon right into a waiting pair of squad cars. Deputies ordered him down onto the ground, where he was arrested.

The 4-year-old was found where Kenon had left his shoes. The child was waiting and crying, holding onto the abandoned footwear. He was recovered and taken into police care. Thankfully, neither child was injured.

Court records show that Kenon has seven charges, including aggravated fleeing and eluding, two counts of child neglect, leaving the scene of a crash, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, and possession of a gun during the commission of a felony.
