A Park City, Illinois, man has been accused of not only recklessly driving through a residential neighborhood, but also for nearly hitting children and ramming into police cars. The suspect now faces multiple felony charges after police say a dangerous pursuit ended in a crash and a trip straight to the hospital.

The suspect was revealed to be 30-year-old Francisco R. Martinez-Perales of Park City. He was charged with a variety of offenses, all stemming from an incident that happened back on April 24, 2025.

According to the story told by LMCS, police at the Park City Police Department received a call at about 7:15 pm about a reckless driver who was blowing through stop signs, nearly hitting a few children at some point. What’s worse is that the children weren’t in the street; they had been playing on the sidewalk.

Fortunately, after a long chase and some aggressive driving, the officers were able to apprehend Martinez-Perales after he crashed. It came as no surprise that the suspect was reported to have bloodshot and watery eyes and emitted a strong smell of alcohol.

What Were Police Faced With When They Arrived on the Scene?

On April 24, 2025, once officers learned that children had been put in danger because of this driver’s actions, they quickly sprung to action. Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Nicholas Shepherd said an officer quickly located a vehicle matching the description provided by the 911 caller.

The suspect vehicle, identified as a 2012 Jeep Patriot, was spotted, and an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, however, authorities said the driver sped away, triggering a police pursuit.

At one point during the pursuit, an officer positioned a squad car across Teske Boulevard in an effort to block the Jeep’s path. Authorities said the vehicle initially came to a stop, giving the officer enough time to identify the driver as a Hispanic male.

You’d Think This Is Where He Would Have Stopped

Moments later, it was reported that Martinez-Perales put the Jeep into reverse and intentionally backed into a Park City police squad car while its emergency lights were on and an officer was still inside. Martinez-Perales then maneuvered around another officer’s squad vehicle and continued driving southbound while crossing between southbound and northbound lanes, striking police cars multiple times during the pursuit.

Officers were eventually able to stop the Jeep near Teske Boulevard and Old Plank Road, where the incident came to an end after a crash. Martinez-Perales suffered injuries and was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.

It was reported that one officer also needed to be taken to the hospital as a result of the incident, but they were released that very same day.

What Was the Suspect Charged With?

Once the suspect was at the hospital, he displayed signs of intoxication, especially considering his odor and bloodshot eyes. When detectives requested that he submit to a DUI kit, he refused.

He was officially charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing to elude police, aggravated driving under the influence, and driving on a revoked license. Even though this happened then, an arrest warrant was not issued until October 2025.

If convicted of these charges, he could face up to 15 years in prison and fines as high as $30,000. He was officially taken into custody in July 2026 and remains held in the Lake County Jail while waiting to return to court on July 8 for a case management conference.
