A police pursuit involving an infant ended in the front yard of a quiet Middleborough home on June 14. Officers say that a domestic incident, unfortunately, turned into a chase across multiple counties.
They were initially called to Trucchi’s Supermarket on Grove Street due to an altercation. When the officers arrived, the dispute became far more aggressive.
Limited details have been officially released about the incident. However, it appears that police were called to look for a knife after a coworker attempted to intervene in a fight involving two individuals just outside the business.
Massachusetts State Police confirmed they assisted the Middleborough Police Department during the incident and deployed a GPS tracking device known as StarChase to monitor the suspect vehicle as it traveled along Route 44.
Police Used GPS Tracking To Monitor Suspect Vehicle
Unlike traditional high-speed pursuits, StarChase technology allows law enforcement to track a vehicle remotely by attaching a GPS device, reducing the need for prolonged, dangerous chases through public roadways. The pursuit eventually came to an end in a residential area off Plymouth Street, where neighbors awoke to flashing lights, sirens, and a heavy police presence.
Resident Matt Mastropietro said the scene unfolded directly in front of nearby homes after the vehicle appeared to cross through several towns before stopping.
“I heard it went through a few towns and ended up here on my neighbor’s front lawn. I heard the car going by with the flat tires, and I came out of the house, and there’s the whole Middleboro PD over there, Lakeville, Plympton, State.”
A Baby Became Part of an Already Chaotic Scene
According to neighbors, officers from multiple agencies quickly surrounded the vehicle before taking the occupants into custody. A Chevrolet sedan with flattened tires was later towed from the neighborhood as investigators worked the scene.
The dramatic conclusion also involved an infant who had reportedly been inside the vehicle during the incident. Witnesses reported seeing a police officer carrying a baby after the pursuit ended, though authorities have not publicly released information regarding the child’s condition or whether anyone involved suffered injuries.
Mastropietro said he could hear officers issuing commands as the arrest unfolded outside. “‘Get on the ground,’ stuff like that,” he recalled.
A Quiet Sunday Morning Was Interrupted by Sirens and Tire Marks
By Sunday afternoon, visible tire tracks remained carved into a front lawn where the chase ended, leaving neighbors trying to piece together what had happened in their otherwise quiet neighborhood. “I know Sunday morning, I usually wake up to my neighbor’s lawn mower,” Mastropietro said. “Instead, it was sirens and flat tires today.”
Middleborough Police confirmed that two people were taken into custody and are expected to face charges in Wareham District Court on Monday. As of Sunday evening, investigators had not released the identities of those arrested or clarified what charges they could face.
Authorities have remained tight-lipped about the circumstances leading up to the pursuit, saying only that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. Additional information is expected as the investigation continues, though it has been revealed that the couple’s bail has been set at $500 as of June 15.
