A Florida driver’s arrest after deputies said he was caught traveling 105 mph with a child in the vehicle has sparked widespread reaction online, with many praising the arrest while others questioned whether the state’s “Super Speeder” law should be changed.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was clocked traveling 105 mph in a 60 mph zone before being stopped by deputies. Authorities said there was also a child inside the vehicle.
The driver was arrested on child neglect charges and also charged under Florida’s Dangerous Excessive Speeding law, commonly known as the “Super Speeder” law.
Under Florida’s Dangerous Excessive Speeding law, drivers traveling 50 mph or more above the posted speed limit, or driving at more than 100 mph in a manner that endangers others or interferes with traffic, can face criminal charges, fines, and possible jail time.
Sheriff’s Office Issues Warning
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office shared footage of the traffic stop on social media alongside a warning about the dangers of excessive speeding.
“This driver was clocked going 105 mph in a 60 mph zone… with a child in the car,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
Deputies stressed that reckless driving does not just put the driver at risk, but also passengers, other motorists and everyone else using the road.
“The message is simple: slow down, drive responsibly and help keep our roads safe,” the post concluded.
Many Praise Deputies’ Response
The sheriff’s office’s Facebook post quickly generated hundreds of comments, with many users supporting the arrest and praising the deputy’s handling of the situation.
“Thank God there wasn’t an accident and the child was killed,” one person wrote.
Another added: “Speeding and child endangerment, glad you got him.”
Several commenters also praised the deputy’s calm and respectful approach during the stop.
“I would like to commend all the officers that, no matter what, continue to talk to these people with respect,” one user wrote.

Others simply thanked the Clay County Sheriff’s Office for helping keep roads safe.
Calls Grow for Florida’s “Super Speeder” Law To Be Changed
While many supported the arrest, the incident also reignited debate over Florida’s Dangerous Excessive Speeding, or “Super Speeder,” law.
Some commenters argued the legislation does not go far enough and should apply to drivers travelling well below the current threshold of 50 mph over the speed limit. Others took the opposite view, saying the law is too harsh and should be repealed altogether.
“They need to rewrite that law. Fifty mph over is ridiculous. If you’re 20 mph over the limit you should be getting this,” one person wrote.
Another added: “Super Speeder law needs to be repealed.”
The discussion also expanded beyond the legislation itself, with several users calling for stricter enforcement of other dangerous driving offences, including texting while driving and violations of Florida’s Move Over law.
Despite the debate over Florida’s “Super Speeder” law, many commenters agreed that driving at such extreme speeds with a child in the vehicle warranted serious consequences.
