A mechanic has taken to Reddit to reveal something truly baffling that he and his team got from a customer. User MerlinP51 posted a video in the r/Justrolledintotheshop SubReddit where a customer stated that the windshield of their car was on fire.
Sure enough, the video reveals a windshield of a car with a strange hole in it, and smoke coming out of it. The hole in the windshield is certainly not big, and it isn’t gushing out plumes of smoke. But it is still quite an alarming thing to see.
That led to plenty of chat below the video as to what was going on, and how the windshield had got damaged this way. Naturally, there was also a lot of disbelief amongst Reddit users as to how on Earth this had happened, with some calling it the wildest thing they’d seen in the SubReddit.
A few jokes were also thrown around. It was certainly an unusual sight, and there probably aren’t many of us who have experienced a smoking windshield. The video went viral on the SubReddit, with 19,000 upvotes and 653 comments at the time of writing.
What Caused the Windshield To Start Smoking?

The clip posted on Reddit really does speak for itself. The cameraman zooms right into the problem area, and we see a crack in the windshield with smoke pouring out of the hole. The actual crack seems to extend above the smoky area, and there is discolouration around the actual hole, suggesting this part of the windshield had gotten quite hot.
Unfortunately, the clip is only a few seconds long, and it doesn’t explain what actually happened. But in the background, we can hear a mechanic say, “And it’s hot, I got it really hot,” suggesting there is a lot of heat coming out of that small hole. The video title reads “Customer states: Windshield is on fire,” and while it isn’t technically on fire, smoke is most definitely coming out of it.
Naturally, it left plenty of people in the comments section flabbergasted. “I think this takes the cake as the wildest thing I’ve seen on this sub,” said the top comment from user shofmon88. “Wait till you breathe in those sweet, sweet fumes,” said another user. A comment from Marlboro_Man808 summed up the situation perfectly, as it simply read, “What the [expletive] is going on.” That comment was only six words, but it encapsulated the entire situation beautifully.
What Was Actually Wrong With This Car?

Aside from all the comments of surprise at the smoking windshield, some people did explain what was wrong. To many watching, it looked like it was a failed heated windshield that had burnt through and started pouring smoke out.
That is what the majority of people said. Some also said it could be an electrical fault from impact damage, or that the plastic laminate/glue between the windshield had begun burning.
Either way, you don’t want to be driving down the road when suddenly your windshield has started smoking.
