One of the more exciting renovation projects underway involves a man in the United Kingdom transforming an abandoned Saab dealership into his dream garage. Saab was once a popular car brand across the UK and Europe, but many of its dealerships were left empty after the company filed for bankruptcy in December 2011.

While most dealerships would likely be replaced by showrooms for other manufacturers, one Brit purchased the dealership building and land in 2025, aiming to create a space for both modern and classic cars.

Of course, the project is a large undertaking, considering the building was derelict, old, and simply not fit for purpose. However, he decided to document every step of the journey on his YouTube channel, which shares the same name as the garage: Torque Rooms.

The Project

The project aims to restore the building while preserving elements of its history as a former Saab dealership. Original dealership features, such as the terrazzo showroom flooring and distinctive Saab workshop displays, will be restored or recreated to preserve the building’s history.

Major changes have already taken place. The entire roof has been replaced with insulated roofing panels, the old electrical system has been completely replaced, and damp walls have been stripped back and rebuilt.

The workshop area has also seen significant changes. An old paint booth has been removed, and the pit from the previous workshop lift will be filled so a new vehicle ramp can be installed. This area will be used for vehicle and general maintenance.

The Cars Planned for Display

The garage will feature display bays where special vehicles can be showcased. The owner mentioned that classic Porsches and Saab models are likely to be displayed, paying tribute to the building’s original identity.

However, the displays will not be permanent. Instead, the cars will rotate regularly and may include guest vehicles from other enthusiasts, allowing a mix of classic and modern cars to be showcased.

The owner is documenting the entire renovation process on YouTube and social media, allowing viewers to follow the project step by step, while time will tell which cars will eventually fill the garage.

Plans to Open in Summer 2026

In a second YouTube video, the owner revealed that an undisclosed individual had reported the project despite it being a largely harmless renovation.

The report prompted local authorities to review the work being carried out at the site, raising questions about permissions and compliance and potentially slowing progress while the situation is assessed.

Despite this setback, the owner continues to share updates on the renovation and his future plans, with the project expected to open to the public in summer 2026. The location has yet to be revealed.

“Torque Rooms is where coffee, cars, and community collide,” read its mission statement.

“We’re transforming a forgotten space into a warm, industrial sanctuary for real conversations, great coffee, and shared passion for machines.

“Inspired by the soul of car culture and the importance of mental health, this is a place to slow down, open up, and connect.

“Currently in build. Doors open Summer 2026.”
