A reckless driver call in Mississippi escalated into a full-blown criminal investigation after authorities said a beer can shattered a deputy’s windshield. The incident happened during a routine patrol response in the area of Sally Parker Road.
George County Sheriff’s Office says that they had approached the vehicle because it matched the description given by the caller. However, when approached, the driver of the suspected vehicle was thrown from inside the car, striking the patrol unit.
The object was later identified as being a beer can. The impact of this beer can was enough to shatter the front windshield of the cruiser, putting the officer and the nearby roadway in danger.
Fortunately, it didn’t take long for deputies to catch up to the vehicle and apprehend the suspects inside, both of whom were juveniles. It was determined that the two juveniles had likely been a part of a different call in which suspects were reportedly striking mailboxes with a car.
Juveniles Shatter Police Windshield With Beer Can
Investigators were able to piece together everything that happened within the stop, even after the alarming incident with the beer can. It was then that it was determined that the suspects were likely involved in earlier criminal activity concerning the mailboxes.
It was revealed that the passengers of the vehicle were juveniles. As a result, the George County Sheriff’s Office explained that their names will not be publicly released.
It was also not revealed which of the juveniles was the one who three the beer can that struck the patrol vehicle or whether any arrests will be made in connection to the mailbox damage. Currently, the only available information includewsa few charges that the juvenile driver was charged with.
Minors Charged With Various Offenses
Following a further investigation, the juvenile driver was charged with a few offenses, including driving under the influence, two counts of malicious mischieg, minor in possession of alcohol, littering, petit larceny, and failure to provide proof of insurance. The passenger was also charged with minor in possession of alcohol.
George County Sheriff Mitchell Mixon condemned the behavior and emphasixerd the dangers it posted to the public. In a statement, he said, “This type of reckless and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated. Throwing objects at vehicles endangers our deputies and the public. We are committed to holding those responsible fully accountable.”
The case serves as a remind of the dangers of reckless and impaired driving can impose. As with all criminal cases, the charges remain allegations, and the juveniles are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
